*Freshwater Multi-Species Contest* - And the winner is......

Post by fishnislife » Thu Sep 20, 2007 9:30 pm

This is a Freshwater Multi-Species Contest

RULEZ

The rulez are simple.

-You must catch 5 different freshwater species
-You must be pictured with the fish holding up the O-tay sign (example below)
-A report must be made of your fishing trip and posted under fishing reports on the home page
-And a picture of the fish with you making the O-tay sign must be posted here as you catch each species

Pretty easy right? Well, here are the 5 species you have to catch to win:

Trout
Panfish
Bass
Catfish
Carp

*Wildcard – Sturgeon, Whitefish, Burbot, Squawfish, Pike, Walleye, Muskie

*I have thrown in a wildcard as well. The way the wildcard works is that you can use one wildcard fish to replace any of the 5 species. So if you are having trouble catching one of the 5, try catching a wildcard to replace it. This can only be done once.

PRIZES

The winner of this contest will receive:

A $25 gift certificate to Sportsman’s Warehouse
A coupon to Sportsman’s Warehouse for $10 off you purchase of $50 or more
A jar of Power Bait
A bag of West Coast Custom Tackle drop shot worms
WL.com goodies
***A hand hand made plaque from bassackwards to put on your wall at home or in the office solidifying your freshwater angling skills to the world.***
and the respect of all WL.com members because you are the freshwater angling master.

Well first off great idea FISHNISLIFE. but I have a question about some of the species of fish in the wild card section. There is a min. size limit for sturgeon, walleye and muskies. So is it a LEGAL sized sturgeon, walleye or muskie, or A sturgeon, walleye or muskie? Sorry to make this complicated for ya but I do love the idea

Any size will work gpc. Just practice C&R.

I forgot to mention that this is a contest for all WL.com members, new or old.

I don't think the "Carp" thing is such a great idea "fish'n"..

Just go with 4 species plus a wildcard and include carp there...

other than that I think you have an interesting program here.
Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.

Can I substitute Bass for Trout, Panfish, Catfish, and Carp?

This isn't meant to be easy. If I thought people couldn't do it I would not have included it. That is why the wild card exists.
This may take some planning, preperation and traveling. My hope is that people will get out and fish for all these species and try new techniques and lakes/rivers. No one should be able to just go out and catch everyone of these species on the first day, that is why it is a contest and it may take awhile.
Honestly, right now I could go out and catch 3 of the 5 species tonight if I wanted to and that would leave me with some serious planning and fishing to do for the other 2 or wildcard. This is not impossible. It will just take skill and ambition. You can do it.

but fish'n. Sport fishing is for fun and recreation. Carp are foul and disgusting animals.

I would rather go hunting rattlesnakes than fish for carp.

You have to keep the interest level at least mid scale to make this kind of thing work.
Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.

littleriver,
If carp fishing doesn't suit you, don't complain about it. No one will force you into this contest. Sure, they are pretty gross, but when you hook one of those things they will whip you pretty hard....A very underestimated fish interms of fighting power.

And if you do decide to enter the contest, you do have the wildcard so you can skip the carp
Don't chase reports...Be the report others chase....

great contest

:king:

now start one for each forum. that would be interesting to follow. maybe you can have the largest fish per category documented, and they get a special prize. for example, panfish, trout, muskie, bass forums should be aware of this contest, and some how allow a single fish to be entered.

this way you get more involvement from the whole freshwater fishing forum.

something to think about

This is a great idea. I like the carp as one of the five fish.

Will you put your skills to the test and try to catch one of these beasts on hook and line. :study: :study: :study:
Or will you stoop to other legal means to obtain a one? :money: :money: :money:

In due time. I have ideas for contests coming out of my ears. The only thing now is getting enough prizes to hand out to make each one interesting. Also, each one needs to be timed out properly. If you put a whole bunch of contests up in a forum at one time it can get really confusing. I will put together more contests in the near future (as long as this one is successful) and your idea is a good one. I planned on doing a biggest fish contest for a species and running it during that species peek fishing period. We'll see how this one goes based on the participation level and excitement of every one. Looks pretty good so far.
Anyone caught at least one of the species yet?

This is a great idea for a contest!!! I can't believe people don't like to catch carp they fight great! I wish a salmon was on there somewhere, but you have to draw the lines somewhere I guess... Thanks again, I can tell you put some thought into this, and it will be a challenge.
