Our long awaited 4 day weekend finally came. The boys and I hit the road and arrived Friday afternoon. In the evening we did a once around the lake. The north end has a lot of algae growth in the water. We trolled along to no hits until we arrived at the south end of the lake. In 50 feet of water, at 35 feet on the downriggers the rods started firing off. Feisty 12-14" rainbows came to the net after some impressive fights. The usual rigs- thin blade spoons- didn't seem to matter much what color. We caught a half dozen and came back into camp. Others were catching limits on power bait. It seemed that everyone was doing well.

On Sunday PM we rented a small aluminum rowboat and fished the "pond" on the north end of the lake. It can only be reached by a narrow channel lined with 6 foot reeds and cattails. Quite fun for the kids! The pond is about 5 acres or so, 6 feet deep and home to spiny rays and trout. Matthew caught his first bass ever on a spinner/grub combo 3 feet beneath a small bobber. The wind was blowing cold and dad forgot the coats (opps). So we headed back in. Lots of wind blowing kept people off the lake except for mornings and evenings.
