Took my daughter to Alice after school to see if we could play with some of the new stockers. Got to the lake about 2:30 and launched the boat. The wind was really blustery whipping multiple directions on the water making it hard to cast in any one direction or troll effectively. We let the wind take us across the lake casting spinners along the way. There were a few other boats out and didn't see anyone hooking fish. After we were blown to the other side we picked up and went looking for a spot that might be a bit more sheltered from the wind. We anchored up and started casting our spinners near shore. We must have found where the trout were hiding as my daughter's silver spinner was getting hammered every cast. That lasted for about 30 minutes before they moved on as the bite abruptly died. We tried moving around searching for them, but couldn't find them again, so eventually gave up. Off the water at 5p. Lots more boats/kayaks showing up at that time with a few people fishing from the access site as well, so the launch was hectic as it's not a very wide access. The lake is very shallow out from the launch, so got my prop tangled in one of the bank fisher's lines. Fortunately I caught it in time and was able to unwrap the braid without cutting it.
In the end, fishing was spotty, but glad we found a willing pod at least for a bit. From what I saw, that seemed to be the norm. If you found the pod of fish then the bite was good, but once they moved it was quiet. The fish are not very large (~8"), but fun to catch. Look forward to going back when it's not windy!
