Tried Lake Alice for the first time, was a lot smaller than I expected. Got there with my kayak around 10:30 and it was pretty slow. Saw a couple folks in row boats pulling out one or two, I think they were using bait.
The lake seemed to go in cycles throughout the afternoon with long periods of little or no bites to short periods (5-10 minutes) of non stop action, this happened multiple times during the day. Also multiple times during the day there were short periods of jumping fish and rises all over the shallow end of the lake. There was some kind of hatch going on and the bugs seemed to like the mango color of my kayak as they would swarm around me, was pretty annoying but I did get a little extra protein for lunch as they kept flying into my mouth!
The morning was slow and eventually I switched to a blue/silver God's Tooth and things started picking up. I ended up boating 6 fish, all in the 10-12" range. After that I decided to give trolling a weighted woolly bugger with my fly rod for a while and during one of the active periods I got three fish in three casts, they would hit it before I had trolled more than 5 feet. Ended up boating another 5-6 fish and losing a few more.
Great day of fishing on a little lake.
