A stomach virus got my fishing partner this morning so I headed to Sprague solo today. I decided to try the unimproved launch on the SE corner of the lake. Fortunately another fisherman ahead of me shared his experience and I was able to launch without difficulty but it does require boots/waders to stay dry.
Started 100 feet from the launch and my pink rippin minnow got hit while I was letting line out and had a fish on it while letting my 2nd line out. Second fish on the rippin minnow took only 5 minutes. It was barely out again and the rod doubled over. It was heavier than the first 2 fish and as I went to net it my line snapped and I saw my only pink RM swim away. Over the next couple hours I tried all the other pink shallow running crankbaits that I had and rippin minnows in other colors all to no avail. Fortunately the fish were liking my perch Kekeda fly on the other pole. Eventually I was fishing a pink and a perch K fly and the fish seemed to have no preference.
Ended up with 15 C&R fish ranging from 17-23". Water temp 43*, speed 2.2-3.0 MPH, 9-14 FOW. Fished flies with 1/4 ounce ahead of the leader. A healthy fishing partner would have made this an even better day.
