Headed to Sprague today hoping that the cooler weather would improve the fishing after getting skunked there a couple of months ago. We had lines in the water by 7:30 and within 20 minutes we were reminded how terrific Sprague Lake rainbows fight. A perch Kekeda fly was too irresistible for a 23+ inch, 5-6 lb RBT. A 22" followed in another 20 minutes on a black/silver Flickershad. Over the next 6 hours we picked up 6 more fish and missed a similar number. 6 fish came on perch and chartreuse Kekeda flies with the smallest fish 18". C&R all fish.

Water temp was 48-50*, speed 2.2-2.5 MPH, depth 9-13 and fished both ends of the lake. Unlike last fall we had no issues with weeds. Another great fall day on the water.

Awesome! Those look great. Glad the Kekeda flies were working well for you out there. Thanks for the report and as always thanks for using the flies. -Dave

I checked my reports from last year and I never made it to Sprague until November but glad I made it earlier this year. Jim

Fishindoc, thanks for the report. Sprague rainbows are SO much fun to catch! They're marginal table fare so catch and release is a great thing to do down there.

My favorite trout and kokanee gear by far are Kekeda flies and Oldgoat lures, if there is a fish to be caught one of those baits will do the job. When I return from Arizona next spring I plan on rigging Kekeda flies behind Oldgoat lures about the same way I rigged slowdeath hooks with Oldgoat lures for walleye this year, It was deadly. Thanks for the report Jim and I will talk with you guys next spring.
