My boss gave me the morning off, so I went to my local favorite, Thomas. Not as early of a start as I wanted, but I don’t think it would have mattered. A nice gentleman at the river had been there since first light and had not seen a fish. He informed me that he had caught about 20 Coho with eggs under a bobber in the previous two weeks, but none today. I really enjoyed my conversation with Mao and some other dudes that arrived later. River fishing sure can change in a week. There were Coho providing aerial performances last week and we had a low tide in the AM. There was barely any current and guys were crossing the river. This week we had a high tide, the river was moving pretty good and I saw one fish jump. My artillery was eggs, dick nite (50/50, frogger), red vibrax #6, jig under bobber. I wanted to put some time in with my bait casting reel, but had to mount it on my ugly stick after breaking a graphite rod last week. At 9:00am, I almost left, but a very nice Coho launched right in front of my face and tempted me back. No fish caught, but I did dredge up two dick nites, a bobber and egg setup and had some great conversations with visiting fishermen.
