We put in at Cady pre-sunrise and putted up to the Pilchuck & anchored. We tried 1st bite with spinners, jigs and spoons but didn't get anything other than a big nasty humpy that took my yellow vibrax. I had to use the pliers to shake him off - didn't want to touch that nasty thing!
We then putted up past French creek just shy of Thomas Eddy. There were several boats as well as bank fishermen. I overheard folks talking that only 1 person had caught a fish early that morning. We anchored up in the current and I floated a plug with no luck. We moved a little further upstream and I tried a nickel-back frog dick-nite for about 45 minutes - again empty handed.
I had finally had enough and we pulled anchor. I put a plug on as we drifted past the other boats. As soon as I had it in the water, I motored up and about 10 seconds later a 6-8 lb. hen hit my line! At first I thought I snagged a tree branch but when I saw the fish jumping I then assumed I snagged a humpy - not much of a fight. When I got it in, it was a bright sliver but had a lot of net marks all over its body and face so it was stressed for sure.
We trolled back with no further bites - technically, this should be a 2 star day but I'm just adding a star because it's been a month since I landed anything at all other than bullheads!
