Headed down to the river this morning, starting my fishing around 8am drifting eggs. Pretty quick I began getting hits on the eggs, however, I was again finding that they were incredibly light hits and it was difficult for me to tell whether it was actually a salmon or possibly just a trout. Anyway, I had some decent bumps, but the few taps that I did set the hook into hard resulted in nothing at the end of the line. After a while I gave up on eggs and switched to twitching jigs. Hand tied rabbit fur, predominantly pink. I pretty quickly got a hit which didn't stick, but the fish hit weren't really having it at my first spot, so I moved on. At the next hole I began with eggs again, and also pitched the jig a little as I worked my way along. At one point I had a nice take on the eggs from a fish that I was hiding under a log. As my eggs got close to the log I saw it dart out/swirl after them twice, but missed both takes. After a while I gave up on eggs at this spot and switched completely to jigging. This is where the fun began. Keeping things very fast and light on the twitch, I proceeded to go 2/4 in about 45 minutes on my hand tied rabbit fur, with numerous other hits that never hooked up well. A bit later on (after losing my jig to a log) I managed to hook and fight another fish up to me on a similarly patterned store bought rabbit fur jig, but lost it due to a barbless hook from fishing the jig in a different river. Ended the day at 2/5 with numerous other hits, getting to take home dime bright 4.5# and 5.5# fish.
Tight lines!
