Hey all, new to NWFR, also new to the Snohomish river. Launched my boat in Marysville and navigated the sloughs to get to the river. My buddy is new to salmon altogether so I had him try the Blue Fox vibrax, while I tried the trusty old black and chartreuse jig. The vibrax was a no go, while I had one hook up on the jig. Lost the fish on its first jump, which came immediately. I thought I was hung up on the bottom and didn't want to set my hook deep into a log, so when I felt the weight, I waited to feel the pull, then bam jumps, tried to set the hook but was too late. Looked to be a good sized coho. Oh well, gonna give it another shot this weekend.

Oh, been reading all of your great reports too, so I might try some other methods and different color schemes, so I tied up some black and purple jigs. Found a really cool pattern called the "suicidal bunny" on you tube, hope it works!

Most of the fish are above the town of snohomish, where there tidal water stops. That is a pretty long way when you launch in marysville. Those color jigs you tied up should work well.

Suicidal bunnies work great! All of joels jigs patterns work well. If you're going to fish low in the system the fish tend to come in with the incoming tide.

Thanks for the tips! This weekend I may hang a left out of the slough and head upstream and see if I can get on em' a little farther up. I may not make it past snohomish but I do know there is only one way for then to get there, I'll just have to intise them to open that lock jaw!

The top colors for coho are usually chartreuse with some black. If they are real active they will take other colors which usually include some pink. That is just my limited history.

Some guys go purple, purple and black and all black in smaller lures like jigs and marabou flies. I know a guy who only uses a long black fly for salmon and steelhead on the Methow River. He has perfected it over 30 years fishing the river. He catches so many fish it is humbling.

The moral of the story seems to be, use a system you find helpful and stick to that. I know Nate Treat likes eggs under a bobber on the Snoho and Sky.

If you are looking for great jigs try River Bend Tackle in OR. Great selection of jigs in all sizes for our type of fish. Plus you can ask what works best in their experience. They make them there.
