Three weekends in a row! This year that is some sort of record. Although the weather forecast was iffy Bassplayer17 and I hatched a plan to chase humpies in the sloughs between Marysville and Everett. Launched on Ebey Slough in Marysville around 7:00 Sunday morning and were heading upstream on the high tide shortly thereafter. Keeping a keen eye for puddling fish or jumpers we ran Ebey to Steamboat then up Steamboat to the Snohomish without seeing much activity fish related activity. Once at the Snohomish we headed upstream towards Highway 9 and set the hook at the lower end of a sandbar ½ mile below Highway 9. We had seen a few fish just barely breaking the water so figured it was our best option all morning and we were out of the crowds.

Fishing different color jigs on 6 and 8# fluorocarbon we started working a slow twitch casting towards shore. One or two casts in we hooked # 1 and for the next couple of hours we were constantly on the fish with a double or two thrown in to keep things exciting. It would slow for a bit here and there but overall we kept busy. Everything we threw saw action but the jigs were where it was at. No real color trends although green/red or chartreuse/white put the most fish in the box.

At the end of the carnage we put 8 larger humpies on ice and hooked and released many more. The day was incredible, between the company and the trip through the sloughs even if we hadn’t caught any fish the trip would be a “5”. A cruise through the sloughs is always and adventure. We saw many great blue herons, a huge osprey and the scenery was spectacular.
