Decided to head out to silver yesterday for some morning ice fishing. There was no shortage in perch, just couldn't seem to find anything big enough to bother keeping. Had a good time feeding the heron all the little perch I caught, he sure appreciated it! I was using a size 2 swedish pimple with maggots in 30-40 FOW.

The heron is the best part of going out there.

Time to stock some more tiger musky and to keep all those little perch. Throwing back the little ones and keeping the big ones is a recipe for lots of little perch next year.

As a child, I remember Silver as one of the best trout lakes in Spokane county that would consistently boot out 12 trout a day limits. Those days are gone! It could also be a consistent prime Spiney ray lake but I have not seen that either since they stop stocking it a number of years ago. What is up with that? Anyway, PLEASE be careful fishing Silver and the other winter lakes. This year has had some of the worst ice conditions on the lakes I have seen in years. Most area lakes have about 3 inches of clear ice and 4 to 9 inches of bad ice on top them. The ice thickness is very deceiving and and most of the strength is in the clear ice.
