Went local for a few day to try out some new fly rods, patterns, etc. Carney Lake is a no motors lake only 15 minutes from my house in Gig Harbor, I was pleasantly surprised. There were only a few other anglers on the lake both days, found all the 12 to 14 inch rainbow you could want. It is what it is, planters still strike hard on a light 4wt outfit, some jump a bit, all are fun to catch.
Hooked probable 50 each day, kept my 5 for the smoker, as a fly fishing experience, considering it was in a suburban lake this was pretty high quality stuff. Used a #8 green sparklebugger, floating line, got bit pretty much non stop trolling/stripping mid lake.
One interesting side note, the WDFW plants 3,500 brown trout every fall in Carney, yet I have never caught one nor has anybody I've ever talked to on the lake, and that has been dozens of people the last three years on this lake. Does anyone know where these brown trout are, had anyone ever caught one?
Hmmm.
