Friday, Saturday and Sunday were some of the best days that I have had on Amber in some time. The weather was perfect, mid 70's, clear skies and a light N.E. breeze. The water temperature on the bottom (25') was 58º and on the surface it was 63-64º so the lake is starting to mix. The water was clear and there was a midge hatch going on most of the afternoon. Most of the fish were lying at a depth of 18-21'. I was using my flash back damsel all three days and averaged about 12-15 fish a day. All were very healthy, fought well and were released without and problems.
I fished the north shore the first two days and on Sunday fished the same area and then on the opposite side of the lake which proved to be and amazing pocket of nice fish. They were near the bottom and taking the fly trolled quite slow with a few short 6" strips and then letting the line back out again.
Saturday evening I stayed on the water until dark, fishing the evening rise which was amazing. At about 7:15 the rise started and lasted until about 7:45. Using my Ptarmagin Hare's Ear casting to the rises I landed about 5 fish with one measuring 19" It was an amazing 1/2 hour.
Today the Seahawks played and there was only about 5 people on the lake all day. I must say, I do like watching the Hawks play, but I wouldn't have missed a day like I had today for anything. A football game can be recorded, a day on the water with constant hits on your fly can't. I wonder who won the game........ I'll have to check. ;-)
