Amber Lake (117 acres): Selective fishery regulations are designed to create a quality fishery at this popular rainbow and cutthroat trout fry-planted lake. Electric motors are allowed. Amber has a public access launch. Amber is located about 10 miles south of Cheney on Mullinix Road. Flyfishermen constitute the majority of anglers at Amber, but spin fishermen also do extraordinarily well. The sheer number of fish in Amber never ceases to amaze. Considering that Amber is located in a predominantly urban county (Spokane), the fishing is nothing short of remarkable. Those spending a full day at Amber frequently catch 40 fish, many of which range between 14 and 17 inches. Flyfishermen do well on a variety of patterns including chironomids, water boatmen, damselflies, wooly buggers, nymphs, and various emergers and dries. Just about any standard pattern can knock them dead on any given day. Spinfishermen do well on standard trout lures such as flatfish, triple teazers, spinners, and spoons. Many spinfishermen opt to fish flies on spinning gear as well.
