"Launched" around 7am yesterday which trickier than last time with the water level down since the last time I fished this lake 2 months ago. My daughter being cold made me cut the run to the other end of the lake way short, so we started fishing aboult a mile from the launch. Fishing wasn't super hot until we got closer to Johnson beach, but we were picking up stragglers her and ther on the way down. Picked up a couple doubles of of the DR's at 35'-66'. We were pulling green and orange apexs behind a couple sling blades, a dodger, and one with bronze beer can flashers. All of them caught fish which seemed to be more about the depth than the color. Only caught 3 browns but a ton of rainbows. The wife and kid managed to long release about 20-25 fish 10' from the net. Most were smaller 12-13". The wife caught her biggest Brown which was the biggest fish of the day @ 18". My daughter loves to bonk fish and is really proud when she gets blood on her hands. My wife lost what I am certain would have been the biggest fish I would have caught at this lake. I watched the rod bury and pop out of the DR and had my wife grab the rod. It was pulling hard and I thought she had it handled, so I focused on steering the boat. I she her out of the corner of my eye jerking up on the rod about 60secs into the fight, I asked her what she was doing? As she did it for the 4th time she slacked the line and this time the rod went straight, fish is gone. Dumbfounded, I asked her again what she was doing. She said she was trying to pop the line out of the DR clip. I had to laugh to keep from crying.
It was a good day with 2 limits and quality family time. Probably my wife's last trip before she spawns my son at the end of this month.
Goodtimes.
