Up early for an old geeser - (4:00 AM) and Mike Carey and I were soon launching his boat onto Spencer Lake for an early start. We were the first to arrive at the WDFW public access.
For the last several years Spencer has been an excellent bass fishing lake. I was quite sure we could hook a few 3-4 pounders and maybe one or two up to about 6 pounds. The weather was almost perfect, fishing was excellent, the comaraderie was the best but the "catching was pretty skimpy." Mike's very chunky, 18 inch rainbow was the catch of the day. It was nice to learn that the lake now hosts 2 species that I had never caught in Spencer before. I caught 2 personal Spencer Lake records - perch and smallmouth bass. They were not very big but the only ones I have ever caught in my many trips to Spencer.
Thanks Mike for a very nice day on the lake. It was nice to re-visit a favorite lake.
