Went to silver after a failed trip at sprague earlier in the day. Went out to about 20 feet of water and caught some fish. Average fish size is still small but getting better than it was a few years ago.
Fish were running from the smaller size of a large fathead to about 8-9 inches no monsters yet.
We were jigging an inch off the bottom with size 12 moon jigs tipped with spikes or wax worms, wax worms were producing the larger fish.
If you are worried about releasing the fish from the deeper depths because of the bends, make sure you have a heated water hole in your shanty they seem to recover much quicker with a warm water input. I had a 100% swim away rate with quick removal and warm water input into my hole from the heater. If they lived after they swam down to the bottom is a different story.
Good luck out there ice seemed good in the launch bay, 5-6 inches everywhere, hopefully we get another cold snap before everything thaws.
