Steel Lake Report – Sunday, 06-24-12
I got to the lake at about 8:15pm. En-route to the dock, I was wondering if the screwy weather conditions yesterday and today might have been affect on how the fish would bite. Then again, a bad day of fishing is better than not fishing… Well, maybe, right?
The guy right next to me lands a planter as I was setting up. Soon, I had mine bait out to await a strike.
For the next 20-30 minutes, the only action to be had was from a guy fishing from a float tube. I believe he hooked into two fish in that time span. In addition, he was either talking to himself (just kidding) or someone on his cell phone. I believe it was the latter, lol. Caleb, was that you?
I switched up my bait tactics starting with chartreuse dough with glitter, then a red and white power egg combination, then a yellow egg and pink marshmallow combination and finally a yellow and red power egg.
It was getting pretty dark by the time I noticed a guy at the end of the dock go through the motions of setting the hook. As soon as he did, the tip of my pole received a similar message. Bam! Fish on, right on! This meant I was not going home skunked. It was a dandy 12” trout. I decided to take it home so I put it on the stringer.
Unfortunately, there was no action after these two hook ups by anybody. I switched gears to do a little bass fishing, but they were nowhere to be found around the dock.
It was definitely a great way to spend the evening.
