finnally decided to take a break from the salt water and head back down to beaver. dont get me wrong i like catching pinks and the occasional flounder ( cause i get a birdsnest not paying attention on my cast and my buzzbomb sinks), but i love the taste of crappies and im kinda of tired of the combat fishing. so a friend and i headed down and got on the water at round 9am. i remembered hearing about a weed kill and man was that true. only small pockets were left. great for getting in/out of the launch and closer to shore. bad for finding fish. the fish scattered making it really hard to pattern them, that and the blue bird sky. cant believe i was actuyally wishing for some clouds. but any way started off trolling my lil 2.5" berlkey gulp minnow on a 1/16 jig head. got a few small crappies. made a full lap round the lake and barely found any weeds in more than 5' of water.@ about 1230-1 decided to get adventurous and head a lil more toward the deeper water and found some scattered weeds in the 7'-8' range. bingo! trolled this range till i went over a nice lil patch then i would anchor and we'd pitch jigs along the edge of the weeds picked off quite a few crappies and a few small(7'-12') lmg. even picked of a few using a small suspending rapala in a minnow pattern. sun started setting so decided to move back in to shore to target bass. my buddy had never fished for bass b4 so i kept it simple and we threw green 4" and 6" sinko's. caught a few small guys then my buddy said he was hung up in the weeds......................... huh, what weeds we were throwing to the reeds? i looked up and his line was moving to the left....................DUDE SET THE HOOK!!! he sets the hook on the lil ultralight and his drag zings like he had set into a brick! it was on. took a couple minutes but he finnally got her to the boat and i lipped her and pulled a beautiful 3-3.5lb lmg out. his first nice bass. kept fishing for bout another hour. few more dinks then called it a day. great time on the lake. kept about 7 crappies and an awesome pic for my bud.
