Worked a long, long shift at the station, came home and decided to try to get the first of 2011.
Arrived around 2:30ish in the afternoon and fished approx 2 hours. Used a blue/black jig and caught/released a variety of aquatic vegetation but no luck at bass or any other fish species.
Still, nothing beats getting out. Weather was ok,overcast but dry with a slight but tollerable breeze

My favorite color jig. Caught my personal best Fivemile Lake bass on a jig back on September 26, 1982. She was 4-8. Did you fish from a boat or shoreline or fishing dock? I used to launch my canoe at the south end of the lake.

I just fished the dock. It has a nice dropoff that I was hoping a big bass would be hiding.Could have been there but they wouldn't give me the time of day

Kevin. Did you hve a plastic or pork trailer on your jig? I've found that when fishing in cold water, Uncle Josh # 11 pork frogs on my Stanley flippin' jigs seal the deal for larthargic winter bass. Black and blue is also my favorite color jig. I believe the scented, ultra soft pork frog trailer attracts them enough to inhale it and the scent/taste gives you enough time to stick em' good. You had me going on the "catch and release vegetation" part... Been there, done that MANY times too! Lol Nice report. Jiggy

I used plastic, can't recall which brand but sort of looks like a crawfish,I did slab on some Bass Hammer scent. I need to stock up on some pork. I was reading in a bass mag or In-Fisherman magazine about pork vs. plastic trailers and it stated that pork was best when used at temps of 50 or below. Not sure if thats accurate, its been a few years since I saw that article but I wished I would of had it at Fivemile. I also need to slow down my presentation,I got a hunch that I'm working the jig a bit to fast. Think I'll have to give it a go this weekend, might even try my luck at Alder Lake.
