Trolled the south end of the lake from noon to 4. Used diving rapalas on mono and wooly buggers on 3 colors of leadcore. Fish were small, mostly browns, got about 6 to the boat. Most strikes came on turns. Water temp was 39. Water level definitely higher compared with last month.

alright a repor on rock! any other anglers out there? Any fish in the 18'' range? I am looking forward to my first trip up there in my small 12' aluminum. When going to rock i always have to watch the weather a few days in advance to make sure the wind will not ruin my trip in my small bat but the fishing is usually pretty good. Stay safe out there and let us know how you do next time you go too.

There were about 6 boat trailers in the parking lot. I'm in the same situation with a small boat, that's why I fish the south end of the lake. If you google "St. John Wa weather" you will find a link to St. John Cable weather. They have real time wind data that seems to be pretty accurate. Biggest was about 15". Was getting 18" rainbows back in december.

rwl- what was the water clarity like? I fish rock pretty regularly, and back in the week between christmas and new year the water appeared to be turning (water temps around 42, had been cooler in early dec.) In my experience, the weeks following the lake turning will readily produce a lot of small browns, and the bows get a little harder to target until the clarity comes back.

I thought the water clarity was good, but not crystal clear like it was in december. It was a moderately overcast day. When landing fish, I could see color when they were about 5-6 feet deep next to the boat.

The water temperature on Saturday was indeed 39 degrees. The water clarity is, on a scale of 1 to 10, about a 7. I would say the water clarity on December was a 9. The lake is up, about 8" from the high water mark, with the inlet very high and muddy. There was a floating grass matte about 100 yards from the inlet from all of the flood water coming from Bonnie and the river between.

Several trollers were catching bows, one even claimed they were fat, big, and hungry. Sorry, I did not see what I would consider big, but the bows are fat this time of year. Trolling flies appeared to be what they were using.
