I decided to try Beaver Lake today 1pm to 6pm. I figured being shallow it might still be warm. Got there and lake was calm not a ripple love that. I put in and got my portable fish finder back from factory so turned it on and stuck suction cup to side of the new boat...and yep it wouldn't stick to this plastic boat! so I tied it to the oar and hung it over the side and put on the fish alarm. About 5 minutes into fishing alarm went off bass down at 3 feet...casted my Rat L Trap and fish on! 10" Bass after nice fight. I found more out deep swimming and lake had fresh coat of green slime on it in the shallows. I caught 6 more in first two hours a 11.5" Bass on top water rapala in perch size 7 and some more dinks on top water. Those were holding tight to southern pads. I went to far end of lake and got another 10" Bass on Rat L trap on first cast in front of pads out front of main pads. I saw some jumping and lots of bubbles but top water wasn't working. I tried a buzz bait and the shallows but shallows were all weeds and green slime.
Towards end of day 5pm or so the fish were rising in the middle of the lake so headed out to try some casts. I hooked a monster Crappie 10.25" and lipped him. Nice fish and must of been Crappie hitting bugs out deep. I trolled back to launch with rapala but no bites. Pretty slow 8 fish 7 Bass and one big Crappie. But 4 fish over 10" which is my bench mark.

But good day on the water warm and sunny in 60's...have to come up with a clamp method to mount the transducer for the portable fish finder. Oh well I needed another project.

Good luck out there. All fish Catch and Released.

Jim

That can be a great little lake! The top water bite seems better when it rains there... The green algae is because most of the lakes are starting to reach the 60 degree mark thus spurring a late season algae bloom, the coming rains should break that up. Also, don't put too much faith in what you may hear about water temps relating to good fishing in this State, some of my best days for bass have been in 45-50 degree water!! Good job out there, thanks for the report! Hey, one last thing, check out a Gimble Mount for your electronics, they are awesome and worth every penny! B8

thanks guys I made a mount today for the fish finder it should work. Made it out of stake and had bike bracket for putting it in the garage and that should fit any boat. I am not very handy but it should work. Hope to try it out on Sunday or Monday. Yep I lived in Arkansas for 2 years and caught fish in 40 degree weather in December there. But there it is t-shirt weather Feb-Nov. Thanks for tip on algae bloom. That was my 2nd trip there. Have to try it again. I did get two of my larger fish there out away from pads on rat l trap. Got 14" bass first time out doing that. But nothing bigger then that for me this year 14" is my limit:) And was the size of first fish at Chain Lake this year.
