I finally got a chance to head up to Coupeville to see my Mom and Family. While I was there on Whidbey Island I dropped by Cranberry lake just to the South of Deception Pass. After finishing a "Shrimpy's" famous Blackberry milk shake, Pam and I dropped my Faltbottom boat into the pristine waters of Cranberry lake.( I fished this Lake heavily when I lived on the Island in 2002.) The fishing back then was decent for Bows to about 14". We trolled wedding rings for nearly an hour without a bump. I tossed some skirted jigs for panfish and finally connected with a sasssy 12" rainbow on a pumpkin pepper skirt jig tipped with a worm. That area on the far western arm of the pond had produced Limits of fish for my nephew Dustin Van Velkinburgh and I, so Pam and I anchored up in 12 feet of water and plunked the afternoon away. The bite was slow but steady and after about two hours we had boated 7 fish to 13" just enough for a baked potato and creamed corn dinner at Momma's house! I love that Island, but that constant cool Ocean air and overcast skies made me crave the warmth and sunshine of the Eastern side of the Cascades. later, The Jigmiester.
