Island County's Cranberry Lake covers 125 surface acres and has a maximum depth of 25 feet. It's elevation is only 20 feet. Fish species include largemouth bass, yellow perch, brown bullhead catfish and planted rainbow and brown trout. Public access is through Deception Pass State Park. The boat launch area is best suited for hand carried craft and has very little room for maneuvering a trailered boat. No internal combustion engines are allowed on the lake. The state park also provides a fishing dock and has some bank fishing opportunities. I was once casting floating minnow lures from the bank for largemouth bass and had an 18 inch brown trout smash the lure as it was being twitched on the surface. I missed the fish on the first strike but hooked it on the next cast. I was surprised to see in a fishing report that there was smallmouth bass present in this lake -- perhaps an error in identification? This is a very good camping/fishing destination. The state park provides 246 camp sites. Bob Johansen
