Great evening on lake. First cast had a brown streak behind my spoon...I twitched it back to the boat and wham! nice trout on the line...got it close to boat and it threw hook. I was pretty shocked. Cast and trolled for a while and got hit by this second brown just before sundown...nice, nice strong fighter.

I did not bring my net for this fish, so hence the "rough handling" photo here. I didn't touch the fish, the hook came out easily, no slime coat damage, and it swam away nicely (I feel guilty!)

It got dark and the ranger shooed me off the lake, otherwise I would have fished more. I knew there were browns in here, but I didn't figure to hook into two of them in the same day.

48-53 degrees outside, constant drizzle and rain, very light wind. Water was fairly clear, but stained brownish, fish were rising from deeper water to strike the spoon. I think both were near the remaining grass/weedlines adjacent to deeper water. Got one on a slower twitch retrieve, and one on a slower troll with spoon. I think it is a castmaster.

Always nice to see a G. Brown trout. Pretty fish. What did you mean that the ranger shooed you off the lake. Is there a sign saying that you must be off the water (boat) by dark? Or were you fishing from the dock and therefor in a park that closes at dark?
I know the lake pretty well.... so I am just trying to see if it was a matter of the park hours.... or if you were just along the shoreline across from the campground entrance? That area I would think would be fine anytime?

She was actually pretty nice about it, but my truck was parked behind the gate that closes at "dusk." and she started to close that so no one else would drive in. I brought my boat in to the gravel launch, put it in my truck, and drove away so she could lock the gate. I was then going to fish from the shore...but I was cold, and wet!

they really are beautiful fish....

clam. I lived in Greenbank a while back and even worked in sporting goods at Oak Harbor Ace Hardware. Cranberry is just a gem of a lake! My Nephew Dustin and I spent many hours catching planter rainbows and browns using weddingring spinners and silver blue Kastmaster spoons. During the summer we caught quite a few largemouth bass as well by pitching smoke double tail jigs and tubes around the logs and stickups. Almost strait acrooss the lake from the dock on Cranberry is a 13 foot deep hole along the west side cattails. That was where we caught our biggest trout on sppons to around 17". Great report! Wish i was there... The Jigmiester
