Got out of work early today and was curious if there was a late afternoon bite for the perch at Silver. Fished from 4-5pm and caught ~10 dinks; Fed some to the blue heron that kept me company. Caught only 1 big female that I think I'll keep as a pet. I'm pretty certain that for perch there's only an AM bite considering their poor eyesite.

Jigged with my usual getup amongst ~10 holes; Only way to get 'em to bite was to load the jig with 3 maggots and use Genz's "hammer method" of jigging. Nice to get out, even if only for an hour. Saw two other guys checking holes with a flasher, but didn't see 'em bring anything up.

Ice is 3-4" and you'll walk through water at the shoreline before getting onto ice. Bring your life spikes if you're gonna venture out (in case you fall in).

4" of clear ice is standard for safe ice; I'm pretty certain death wish comes with 2" of ice or 4" of popcorn ice.

If you're interested in some insurance on the ice, consider life spikes and some Arctic Armor (ice fishing suit that floats)- take a look on YouTube for demos. A lot of hardcore ice fishermen wear it- a little pricey, but you'll float long enough to get out. Checkout the video I linked in the forums for what to do if you fall in (besides drown). ;-)
