It was SO cold, the herons stayed away (at least until I had a pile of fish on the ice). Cold this AM and was worried that the fish wouldn't bite, but once you found the schools it was consistent. Key is to drill as many holes as necessary and constantly move to find the fish. Drilled ~10 holes, but caught most of our fish out of 4 holes in two different spots. Again, deeper water ~25+ ft held bigger fish.
Black Shrimpo jigs have been pretty torn up over the past week, and one fish finally took the plastic off my jig. Didn't seem to matter though. They took to biting on a plain black eyeless jig tipped with a perch eye and maggot (they seem to like the buffet option). I'm also a big fan of glow beads and feel like they help.
Very, very light bite today; Did some reflexive jerks out of the blue and found fish (especially bigger perch) on the line; I guess they just mouth the whole jig without even making a tug.
Between a buddy and I, we took home about 50 keepers; I finally got my jumbo (but just one). Have yet to measure it. Got quite a few more at the 9" or bigger mark this time. Less sorting today, but still threw back a ton of small ones to let 'em grow.
If I can ever get the pictures off my phone, I'll post 'em.
Will probably hit Silver again this weekend, if not earlier tomorrow afternoon if I can get off work before sundown.
