It was SO cold, the herons stayed away (at least until I had a pile of fish on the ice). Cold this AM and was worried that the fish wouldn't bite, but once you found the schools it was consistent. Key is to drill as many holes as necessary and constantly move to find the fish. Drilled ~10 holes, but caught most of our fish out of 4 holes in two different spots. Again, deeper water ~25+ ft held bigger fish.

Black Shrimpo jigs have been pretty torn up over the past week, and one fish finally took the plastic off my jig. Didn't seem to matter though. They took to biting on a plain black eyeless jig tipped with a perch eye and maggot (they seem to like the buffet option). I'm also a big fan of glow beads and feel like they help.

Very, very light bite today; Did some reflexive jerks out of the blue and found fish (especially bigger perch) on the line; I guess they just mouth the whole jig without even making a tug.

Between a buddy and I, we took home about 50 keepers; I finally got my jumbo (but just one). Have yet to measure it. Got quite a few more at the 9" or bigger mark this time. Less sorting today, but still threw back a ton of small ones to let 'em grow.

If I can ever get the pictures off my phone, I'll post 'em.

Will probably hit Silver again this weekend, if not earlier tomorrow afternoon if I can get off work before sundown.

good job...yeah it can be a pain sometimes finding quality fish...I am like you, if its not bigger than my hand (thumb to little finger measure = 9 inches) I don't keep them...did once and only once had about 50 around 8 inches...was cleaning them forever... if the pic is on your phone you can text it to your email address...and get it quick like that...thats how I do it and its the same as sending a pic to any other phone....tight lines!!!!

What a coincidence - the thumb to little finger measure (in a shaka sign) is the same measure I use to gauge ~9 inches. It's a quick and dirty way to see if the fish are worth keeping. Sometimes it's not just length either; I take a look at how "tall" the fish is and if they have good shoulders (ie: a wide fillet).

I used to have that cell phone problem, I resorted to photographing my cell phone screen until a guy older than me said, "why don't you just send that photo to yourself via email"! Whhaaat I said! Pull out your phone and look for the app that has the email symbol. I am living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks! Klahowya!
