Decided to visit my old college bass fishing stoppin' grounds and fished Beaver Lake (near Clear Lake) from 6:30AM to about 10AM. In the old days my buddies and I use to always get big bass here. Not much has changed. I expected a matted weedy lake...but was surprised to see this lake was treated on 8/26/09...and there were enough really thin spots for me to work the rubber worm magic. And the poison didn't seem to effect the bite. On my third cast I stuck a huge bass that broke my line...crappy start. But as the morning progressed it got fun. At first all I got was 5 or 6 dinks...then I caught a 2+ pounder that helped salvage the day. When I returned an hour later to the "spot" I got bit again...this time by the 6 pounder in photo #1. I continued to fish for awhile getting a few 10-12 inchers....and then right before I left I tried the "spot" again, and within 5 yards of the very same hole I caught about a 5 pounder (photo #2). All fish were released (or escaped) as usual. All the while I kept asking myself why I hadn't come here sooner. A great trip down memory lane, and my favorite fishing day of the year.
