On the water by 6:30 am.Overcast skies, although the clouds burned off later.Surface temp a surprising 67 degrees.Fish spead through the water column from 5 to 30 feet deep.Larger fish holding from 12 feet to 30 feet.Trolled Flatfish and Wooley Buggers for about an hour.Caught three small stockers, all released.Decided to try for the big ones so we anchored in about 27 feet of water and cast night crawlers with no weight towards the deeper part of the lake. After maybe 10 minutes I hooked into a fat 23" rainbow.Didnt put up much of a fight, made one short run and came right to the net.Estimated weight 5 1/2 to 6 pounds.Five minutes later my wife hooked into a fish of the same size.Hers fought a bit harder and snapped the line at the net.I had one more large one on briefly. Was trying out a circle hook that did NOT work as advertised.Caught 4 more small stockers(not pictured)all kept since they were caught on bait. These fish, even the big one had the whitest meat i've ever seen on a trout.Would have rated this trip lower if it wasnt for my biggest fish of the year so far...
