I went exploring today looking for a new lake with largemouth bass. I launched my small boat onto Lake Carney and cruised the shoreline looking for bass or old spawning nest. Talked with a shoreline resident who said that there was only rainbow and bullhead catfish in the lake. I made a few cast with jigs and Rapalas trying to prove him wrong but I now think he is probably right. The launch is awful for a trailered boat. You will have both the rear and front wheels in the gravel and muck before you can float a boat off the trailer. I will leave this one to the trout anglers.

I think I have heard that this lake only does have trout and no bass. My friends and I hiked up to Fern Lake or Koeneman Lake to try for trout and bass but there were no places to fish unless you had a tube, we went down back to Carney to fish and caught a few trout, the first one we cut open had worms in it so we threw the rest back when we caught them.

Koeneman lake is also known as fern lake, it's pretty much unfishable right now but I saw some report a few days ago of a flyfisherman on another site that said he caught fish there from a float tube. Carney Lake is right next to that lake and Wye Lake, theyre located about 7 miles from Purdy.

their are some giant cutthroat in fern, koenemen lake. i've got a couple tiny bass and a few kokanee. tough fishing from shore but their are a few holes in the bushes you can get through. not sure if it was open this year.
a freind has a house on carney, just trought and they've had kokanee in the past. used to be goldfish too.
