This report is actually for Tues, Sept. 30, 2008
Arrived at Amber at about 7:30 Whoa, it was windy when I got there! Tried trolling for a while with various flies and lures, but got no takers, starting in the upper end of the lake, and working my way downwards. After a while I began to develop a pattern, I would troll for a while, then cast for a while, troll for awhile, then cast for awhile, each time switching to a different lure and/or fly.
Then, I put on this little Panther Martin knock off, that I bought at sportsman's many years previously. I don't even remember the name of the thing...but I threw it out and, BANG! I had that fish on for about three seconds, but four casts later, another strike.
I held onto this one long enough to get a look at him. Nice fish, VERY nice, but he got off too.
And that was the story of my day. I must have hooked at least six fish on that little spinner....all of them nice one, I lost every single one of them. ( My inexperience at using selective gear showing through, I'm sure. ) Once of them, grabbed the spinner and immediately took off on a long run. I managed to get him close enough to the boat to note that he had red gill plates and yellowish sides. A cutt?
Sad to say, I next tried trolling with that little spinner, immediately snagged and lost it. Tried almost everything else in my box, but nothing else did it for me.
Still, I'm calling this a four-star day....probably the most fun I've had getting skunked. Those fish were a blast to hook, even if they did get off....and I wouldn't have missed this day for anything
