Decided to brave the rain, wind, and cold today to continue my quest for a brown trout from Cranberry lake and was finally rewarded. A friend and I launched our float tubes a little before 8 am and headed across the lake to where I have been having recent success with the rainbows in the lake.

I fished the same rig pretty much the whole time, a small tube jig tipped with a power worm and missed a couple of good hits before I finally got one to stick, a healthy brown of about 13". I got my second fish on the way back in not too far from shore which was a cookie cutter of the first fish.

I have been fishing Cranberry frequently in the past few weeks and catching some really healthy rainbows but I am still pumped to have caught my first brown today. The weather was pretty bad and by the time I got in my hands and feet were blocks of ice but it was still a great day on the water. I only saw a couple other guys fishing from shore and no other boats or tubes. Both fish were released and seemed very healthy. Sorry about the quality of the pics, I just wanted to get the fish released as quick as possible.

What a beauty. I think that Cranberry just got added to the lakes index, so it is good to know that people are fishing it. Again, just a beautiful fish. I love the look of a brown.

SDAngler, Super nice fish. I know the WDFW planted 10,000 Brown Trout last year in Cranberry on March 6th. They were 1/4 pound each. I don't think this lake gets much pressure by boat so I know the lake has lots of nice fish in it. I have fished this lake every year for about 22 years now, and after the plant, its always super hot fishing catching one right after another often hooking a carryover. It’s a catch and release paradise to say the least. These fish also taste great unlike the muddy flavor trout sometimes have caught in other lakes. It's a great lake for sure. Very nice fish and great job.
