FINALLY got some time to get out on the lake. Showed up at 05:00 and grabbed a boat from Rubies. I started fishing the N. shore line but I remembered a good fish I had seen on my last trip out about 6 weeks ago and headed out to find it. I fished the S. side of the rock point mid-way down the lake but didn't see anything. So I motored over to the S. side of the point and had a nice muskie come flying in and chase a bulldawg through 2 figure 8's and hit it on the straight of the third pass. I set the hooks and had a good fight with a healthy fish of 36 or 37 inches. I released her after a picture in the water and she swam away giving me the stink-eye.
I moved back N. along the E. shore casting into the timber and caught a bunch of largemouths. They were hitting a rainbow pattern swimbait. I drifted across the extended reef that runs N.-S. a hundred yards off the far N. shoreline. I caught several more bass while burning my swimbait across the tops of the weeds and saw another muskie hanging out.
I had drifted into about 3 feet of water and was casting into deeper water when a muskie rocketed in from under the lure and hit it hard. I reeled in to find my bait bitten in half. Oh, I love these fish! After about an hour of working the deeper edges in the area I drifted through the small bay E. of Rubies and caught some more bass. I was tossing a Charlie swimbait to a couple of stumps when another muskie hit the bait. I missed the hookset on this one but the dang fish hit again a few feet later! I tried sinken the hooks in again but she shook off after a few seconds. You don't get many shots at these things and here I blew it twice, man I need to get the rust off.
Well by this time it was hot and the yahoo's were arriving in droves so I took off. The largemouth's were loving the rainbow pattern swimbait's burned across the weed tops. It was a good morning for this muskie guy.
