Made an afternoon trip to Silver and just knew we'd have to contend with the fun boaters due to the warm weather. Fortunately, they all seemed to head for home about 5:00. We caught lots of bluegill and crappie, but the bluegill were on the small side so they all went back. None of the crappie boated were legal, all about 8". Still a nice day, and had fun trying to keep our yellow lab IN the boat. :-)

One thing that always bugs me at Silver is the use of the BOAT LAUNCH by folks not launching or recovering boats. It really sucks to have people sitting in lawn chairs at the water's edge of the BOAT LAUNCH. Gets challenging when backing the trailer. I've reported this problem to the Spokane County Sheriff Marine Patrol before and may have to again. It was really bad yesterday, swimmers, kids fishing, little kids running around the launch unsupervised while boats were being launched and recovered - not good.

I did notice Spokane County has posted signs announcing the launch is to be revamped. Maybe, just maybe, they'll restrict the boat launch for it's intended purpose and create fishing access somewhere other than the road. One can only hope!

Sad but true, everyone has something to complain about! Do you really believe that fishing needs more restrictions and that law enforcement needs to be shooing fishermen away from the boat launch? Lighten up bro, I bet all those folks at the launch wish they had their own boat and would gladly come with you if you invited them.

Boat Launch! Not hang out and party spot. I'm with hewesfisher. We all need to consider the safety factor involved. Especially the way I back a boat. LOL

Noah,
I think you may have mis-understood what hewesfisher was saying, he is not asking to add more restrictions, just simply keep the boat launch clear. His last statement was saying that he hopes that Spokane County adds more fishing access other than the road, I think that you and him are on the same page and you mis-understood what he was getting at.

Noah,
There is a resort right across from the launch that they can go and fish and swim and not be in the way. The boat launch is not entended to be a free resort for those that are too cheap to pay at the resort. Those individuals that we are talking about don't give a crap about the boat launch. They don't care if they are in the way and they are the ones that leave garbage all over the place.

Not all of the people that have boats give a crap either. I have been fishing out there quit a bit over the years and some of the boaters have a lack of respect for this lake also. No respect for other boats, taking out illegal fish and so on. I think the people that respect the rules and respect others are the minority. I guess that is what happens when the lake is so close to town.

Noah, I don't believe FISHING needs more restrictions, but I do believe FISHING (or swimming, camping, partying, picknicking, etc.) should not occur at the BOAT LAUNCH. Silver Lake is the only place we fish where we have to contend with this issue. Rob1 and schmaltzy are both right, I ADVOCATE fishing access at Silver Lake, just not at the BOAT LAUNCH. It's bad enough contending with inconsiderate boaters at the launch, we don't need to deal with day campers, picknickers, swimmers, anglers, etc. too. It's a formula for disaster that I, for one, do not want to see become reality. The truly sad part here is, the only access to the lake is at a shallow spot that almost dries up in late summer, so I don't know how, or if, that can be remedied.

As far as I know, there is no other location available on Silver for the County to provide public access. Anyone who parks in the public access area has to pay via the state use permit to use that lot whether they are boating or using the bathrooms. So, if there's no other public land to access the lake through and everyone pays the same amount to use the area shouldn't everyone have the same rights to use? Regarding tollef's comment, the fact that there are resorts on the lake cuts your arguement the other way as well. The Pines resort also has a boat launch and if a person was bothered by the public use of the public access area then they could take their money and their boat over to the resort.

Nice to hear you caught some gills and crappies, I use to catch huge blue gills there about 3 or 4 years ago.
I use to catch 10-11 inch perch close to the church camp. Maybe I'll need to give silver a try this year.

Noah,
You are right about that and I agree with ya. We could use the launch over there as well. I just hope that you don't think that every guy at Silver that has a boat has money. Some of us make sacrafices in other areas of our lives in order to have a boat. Good luck fishing.
