A high pressure system moved into to the NW and has brought with it very warm weather and clear skies. Today it reached 88 degrees with a light NE wind. The last week has been warm and the surface water temp rose 7 degrees in a week. Today the surface temperature was 70 degrees. There was a light algae bloom in the water.
The damsel flies are hatching and the fish are cruising the shallows taking them off the surface. I was able to land an 18" rainbow that I got 2' from shore with a damsel adult imitation. I love casting those because when the fish take them it is a fast and furious rise!
I wore my welcome out in that area so I decided to head back towards the launch. I switched to my sinking line and put on a black wooly leech. In a matter of minutes I was landing my first fish. Then again and again. My fourth one in 10 minutes measured out at 19 inches. About 15 minutes later, the switch was turned off and I didn't get a hit the next two hours.
The peak heat of the day came around 4 pm and I called it a day.
