The Pike of 2011

Post by Lucius » Tue Jan 24, 2012 2:04 pm

I was going back through the reports and noticed the amount of success people had in 2011 with some catching some really big fish. I always like these types of post for people to share their success in order to get stoked for the upcoming fishing year. I have attached my two best outings for pike this year. 1 is of numbers from Nebraske and 1 is of my son's first pike from North Dakota which turned out to be the biggest pike in the family this year.....Imagine that.

Post your 2011 pike!!!!!

Hey Mike,

Any Pike is a Good One, no matter the size. Getting that first one is always a real treat. I remember when I got hooked to Northern Pike a little over 20 years ago back in the Good Old Midwest and how much I couldn't wait to always get back to the lake to get more. I also of course love my Muskie, however we never kept any of them, they are a special breed that we have always respected tremendously and would never consider eating. I always enjoyed being able to come back to the fish shack with my Grandfather to Fillet up a few Northerns for the table. MMMmmm nothing like a good old fashion Pike Fry, especially when my Grandmother would make it. That was the best meal anyone could ever ask for, other than of course the great Walleye, which is absolutely amazing. Now if you haven't caught a Walleye, you have to get one of those too for fun and of course for a meal either for lunch or dinner sometime. You will have a blast, once I learn where to get latched onto some good Walleye I plan on having a nice Pike and Walleye Fry at my place this spring or summer. Now that is what I can't wait for, of course I will only keep the smaller ones. All the big gals go back free and unharmed for future catching, pictures and releasing, I have to be able to brag about catching a monster every now and again. Congrats on your 1st Pike out on the Pend Oreille, it is always a real treat to get back over that way. I hope to be back this spring, winter needs to hurry up and pass, my lures are getting anxious to get used. Take it easy, good fishing and tight lines for 2012!

Hey Lucius,

Great pic of Wyatt with his First Northern Pike, I will have to break out the picture of my daughters First Northern back 2 summers ago. I too remember that feeling and the best part was that my Grandfather who got me into it was there to help her pick it up out of the water and put it into her hands. Now you want to talk about a priceless moment, I almost had to hold back some emotions, but then I remembered "there is no crying in fishing," unless of course you get a treble hook in the back of your head [crying]

Other than that it is one of the coolest things to see the tradition of fishing getting passed down from generation to generation and what a moment it was to have my Grandfather right there to put that very First Pike in her hands just like He did for me some 20 + years ago on the exact same lake, Yes my favorite place anywhere THE GOOD OLD "CHIP". Somethings just play out perfectly, which is why I am so addicted to Pike and Muskie Fishing, just can't get enough of it. By the way my bags are almost packed for Canada and the Beer is going on ice soon so get ready because the big trip is just around the corner. I am getting pumped and can't wait to see it all come together! What a week it is going to be, I can't wait to see some of those monsters and the pictures that we will look back on and talk about for years to come. Oh and good luck with the tournament coming up, bring home the bacon or should I say PIKE... Inc that is! [thumbsup]

Nate

Here is my biggest of this year, my best guess puts it about 13 to 14 lbs but I didn't get a weight on it even though I had it on my gripper scale. I don't like to hang big fish vertically on a scale (it's bad for the organs of the fish)and it was all wrapped up in the net and took some time to get out, so I just wanted to get it back in the water before it died on me. Wish I had put it back in the net for a bit to revive it and then weigh it in the net so as to not hurt the fish. It was a fatty though as you can see.

Image

It was a nice fish, But I lost 3 fish that were bigger and one of them was a friggin Alligator without legs. I'm talking a well over 45 inch fish. Heck, it was about 8 inches across it's back!!!! Broke my heart when it cut through my 80 lb. fluorocarbon leader, But I gonna get him next year.
Planning a trip to the P.O. this Sat. if the weather holds up. I want to try out some new baits I made and some radical new techniques I dreamed up. The Mad Scientist strikes again!!!!!!!!!!

This was one of my better ones. I released over 200 pike in 2011. Biggest was 34" and 11 1/2 pounds. I will be concentrating on bigger fish this year so I expect my overall numbers will go down.

Happy fishing!

Alright, without further ado, here is one of my Proud Moments on the Pend Oreille this past year of 2011 and Craig is my witness that this nice 28 incher was caught on the Beefa in High Water in May!!! She was certainly ready to go too when I let her back into the River.

Here is my other very proud moment that says a thousand words. My little fisher women with her Very First Northern Pike. This picture is a few years old, but certainly worth sharing!

Nate, She looks like a keeper for sure, what a cutey!! Love the Barbi life jacket too. I plan to get my Niece and Nephew out on the river this year and get them both their first Pike ever. Both have got bass over 3 pounds so I think they are ready. for toothy critters now.

Most of the big ones that we caught this year have already been posted, but here are a couple from last year that my brother and a friend caught. They were around 19lbs and 17lbs.

Alright, that is it...I want you tested for performance enhancing drugs!!!!! The biggest pike I have caught in the lower 48 of my entire life was 36" and 11.5 pounds and in two years you have a 17,19, two over 22 and whatever the other two you just posted.... plus the various 11,12 and 13 pounders you posted from last year....You definitely have the pike dialed in. How big were the two your most recently posted?

Also, this thread was created as "pike porn" if you will, so don't be scared to post up your bruts from last year. I know all of us will probably never get tired of staring at them!! Congrats on your success and I wish you much more success this year.

Those are definitely some nice fish!!! Hope that one your dad caught didn't die, I see is was bleeding pretty bad. That's about the size of my biggest Pike ever, that I have actually landed. I don't have a picture if it though, forgot my camera that day. ;( I'm going out today, so hope to have some pixs of some toads to post tomorrow!

Good luck out there! That big one was bleeding a bit, but he swam away strong. Pike sure seem to be pretty hardy fish, so hopefully he is out there to be caught again.
