So who's ready for some SPRINGERS!!!

Post by salmonslayer117 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:09 am

Is anyone else pumped?! Just the numbers alone are gonna make for a great time! 476,000 spring chinooks scheduled to return to the columbia and its tributaries. I don't know about anyone else, but after a paltry steelhead season and not having a decent fight on the line for months... I'M READY!!!

I've put new line on my big river reels, sharpened all of my plug hooks, tied leaders for my bait rigs, got my camping gear organized, and most important; made room in the freezer for springer fillets!

Where are they? I mean where can you catch them? The only ones I know about are at Drano.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

when I was over at the Hoh last week, a guy that was camping out there had a hookup with an early springer. He nearly had it beached then a violent head shake got the hook unbuttoned. Between native steelhead coming in and those early springers, I'll be happy to catch any of them in the next couple months :)

I have visions of these Springers being so thick it will remind me of the Pink run. I want to get so many on, that our normal group will be chanting, "Jerry Jerry Jerry!!"

Man I been having springer dreams since jan. When I started seing the predictions on the returns. If the late run steelies pan out and some early springers are leaking in and natives that should be in or will be in end of feb and march could be good.
More fish please!

[biggrin] [lol] [thumbsup] [thumbup] I'm just itchin' for that first big bite. Visions of that pink run come to mind. I don't think it'll be a problem findin' fish but it might be a problem keepin' the gear in working condition with all those strikes! Watchin a show on the sportsmens channel yesterday and they were fishin' for springers up in alaska on a river near the coast. The run was smaller than our scheduled return and they were hookin' up on every cast! Now that's exciting! I can't wait to start postin' some pics! The first week of march should be pretty hot!

Pooh's got an earlier post in the river fishing forum (winter steel isn't over but gear up for spring chinook) with some links to some really good intel on the springer return this year. Check it out!

Can't wait also, never fished the Columbia river, can you bank fish? All I've heard is people using their boat. Also remind me to bring plenty of Ibuprofen and JEN-GAY, oops I mean ben-gay, maybe Jen can help me put it on.

So are there any Springers in the Snohomish/Snoqualmie/sky rivers? This is my first year fishing and I don't really know when and where you can catch these spring kings.
