multiple burglaries, vandalism, theft on the green

Post by Sideburns » Thu Oct 20, 2016 5:18 pm

My truck and at least two others were broken into and items were stolen in broad daylight this morning, at the boat launch/ gravel lot on green valley rd near aub black diamond road bridge. Windows were broken on the two other guys trucks. I told my buddy about it, and he said his window was smashed last week at the park n ride nearby... for a pair of sunglasses.

Beware, these criminals are likely living nearby, and I suspect ive seen them before in this area prowling and "trying" to be stealth.

That does sucks. And what can you do? It was really bad in the skykomish valley a few years, I'm not sure if it still is but I live in Gold Bar and it bad here. When I bought a new car 2-1/2 years ago I kept my Ford Focus with 195,000 miles so I would have a beater to leave at fishing holes so it wouldn't hurt so bad if someone breaks in.

Why can't we ever catch these guys and do some attitude adjustments??
We need to set up some bait cars.

That sucks, I have heard the park n ride can be pretty bad down there, I live farther down river near the golf course, and as you go into kent there are several little homeless camps, but we have not heard of any issues related to them as of yet.

That was my first thought too, but I dont think it will do any good... (addicts with no sense of reality) They really need to be incarcerated if they have any chance of cleaning up.

What bugs me, is that I can find tweakers, addicts, drug paraphernalia, crazy homeless people living in cars etc.. and drug trafficers, all year long..... without leaving the vicinity of the gravel lot!

How would one go about getting some attention from the police down here?

Shoot someone breaking into your vehicle and I bet there would be plenty of police presence....other than that, good luck. I think there is only so much the police can do unless they catch these people in the act. [thumbdn]

PS. I'm not directing anyone to actually shoot somebody....sad that I have to even write this.

I walk down here at night quite a bit, and light up the river in various spots with bright flashlights. Sometimes hundreds of fish scatter into the darkness... (just realized :silent: they stole my bright flashlight, damn it) Last year, thinking that I was being followed on the trails, I quietly waited of to the side of the trail and suprized a very young meth addict with no shoes.
Walking with a friend a week later, we did the same thing, and the same kid ran off.

Since then, Ive seen others, sometimes they scatter into the black berry bushes when I fire up the flashlights.

Its hard to look at these guys in the eye and not feel compassion for the person that is lost in there somewhere.

Im not going to go all vigilante, but it seems fairly easy for the cops nab these guys in the act if they wanted to.

The use of a trail camera could identify the bad guys and serve as evidence to the police. Its just as risky to put a camera up and lose it. Next best thing to a all out stake out.

@Sideburns - what did he say when you ended up surprising him? Was he all tweaked out or did he just say he was living there? A lot of these guys worry me due to the nature of their current status in life and what they may potentially do depending what and if their on something. Have you ever seen any of these guys that might have made you think twice about sticking around?

Only talked to him the first time, yes he was high, and confused... he stuttered and asked me for a light. When I told him i didn't smoke, he said something I couldn't understand turned around mid sentence, continued talking (to himself?) until he had walked 20' away... then suddenly bolted barefoot out of site!

Second time, when I was with a friend, he had already been following us for 30 min or so, and he bolted as soon as we walked out from the trail side to confront him.

No I dont think that kid last year was dangerous, He was just really confused and I was more concerned for him. Yes I feel nervous walking around there by myself. I have had a pistol with me lately if after dark, but these guys are generally so afraid of people (paranoid) that they wont confront you, and you'll prob never see them unless your looking for them, or theyre breaking into your car.

If I'm out there alone at night I get in and out quickly, just to see if fish are stacking up....

BTW, if there are cars in this gravel parking area at night, many times it is drug related or people living in their cars. Stay away from them too...

Thanks for the reply @Sideburns. Knowing first hand the damage addiction and drugs can do I hear what you are saying as far as feeling "concern". I also know sometimes these guys are not "themselves" as you even mentioned in an earlier post. Looks like my large bowie knife will be coming along for these trips. I will definitely be taking precautions if I'm out there and thanks for some recon advice and what to look for.

Stopped and talked a cop on the way to the river this evening, turns out he's the one that responded to yesterdays theft. He says he stops there several times a week, and usually makes an arrest! He couldnt say enough about how bad that spot is, like weirdos are magnetically drawn there.... Super nice cop, also an avid fisherman that fishes the area!

Water was to high for me to fish today, went up a foot since early yesterday. The area did not disappoint me though. One drunk (drink in hand) stumbling around -very talkative, the "usual" drunk passed out in Honda with one gallon tequila bottle in lap, and one guy passed out in car with his pants down and genitalia in hand. Unbelievable...

Great feedback from the LEO. Happy to hear that. Sad about the dregs of society though. Guess if you're hard up for entertainment.....

I noticed the gravel lot across from the golf course/range has new signs up about no parking between certain hours(night), maybe they should get them down there too, I am sure it is Auburn that put them up. As you move into Kent you still see all the cars and campers. There is a place near the soccer fields that has a little tent city going on as well.

Maybe take pics of the license plates of the obvious campers to give to the PD if something happens.

The really frustrating part is: this is now considered normal!! Tweeking, stealing, burglary, homeless camps, dregs, drugs and dumping...
We (the people) can only shrug and complain.. It's a feeling of not only anger and frustration, but of utter contempt. More and more it's becoming evident that self respect and self accountability are being replaced by lack of discipline and rampant entitlement!

Is there a solution? If there is I can't think of it. Incarceration is a big business and our prisons have become revolving doors.

We (the tax payers) are footing the bill for multiple programs to assist homeless/substance dependent people, but for the most part, they don't/won't take advantage of the help and get clean and become productive citizen's.

We coddle, protect, appease and enable. But do we really want to put an effort into finding the root of the problem and correcting it?

.....rant over......
