County Plat Map (Land Ownership) Information For Washington

Post by Marc Martyn » Tue Feb 15, 2011 9:24 pm

The purpose of this post is to list the counties that have interactive plat map information that is available online. These maps are very helpful as to finding ownership information of land around lakes and rivers. In many areas, the property lines are unknown or may not be posted. Not knowing where they are, you may be trespassing on someones land and not know it. Spokane County has this information online. I have utilized Spokane's site several times.

Here are the links for Counties that have this feature:
(To get information, zoom in on the map and click on the parcel number)

I used the King Co. one this past summer to turn in a person for inappropreat behavior, and polluting the lake. They said that they WOULD do something about it.

Well, I'm not going to say, at this time anyway. Lets just say it has caused the death of more than 1 dog, and probably fish as well. It was even reported on the tv news years ago to not let your dog chew on these items. And if a fish was to eat them, it might break down enough to kill a fish, or block their digestive tract. Not to mention if they break down in the lake it might poison a fish. Depends I guess. But it is also very unsightly.

This is mapsifter for Grant County. You will have to play around with it to get the info you need. If you have any questions PM me.

Try .... http://gis.snoco.org/maps/property/viewer.htm ... for Snohomish County.

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

Thanks, Lonnie. I saw that last night, but for some reason could not get it to work. This morning it works. I think their server is slow. Also, these Mapsifter county maps are fairly new and I think they may still be working on getting some of them up and running fully. Some parcels, like around Lenore give no info. Probably assumed to be U.S. Government.

Added to the list.

Are any of these maps interactive online or do you have to purchase the information through Skagit County?

I had issues with this site viewing with Firefox. It kept on saying to disable pop-up blocker. Is it the browser or the site?

When I have some time, I'll try it on Safari and see what happens. Any feedback would be helpful.:)

On the menu on the left hand side there is a link "iMap Interactive Map " click on that using Internet Explorer and it will open the interactive map in a new window. A link directly to iMap will not work.

This is a VERY cool resource Marc. So if I am using it correctly, take a look at plots 3626260025 and 3626260026
in Okanogan county (just S. of tonasket) This is a very small body of water right off of Hwy 97, called Crumbacher lake.
I have always wanted to hike down the road side into the lake, although there are no outbuildings, etc. It just made me wonder about land ownership..? So according to you website link, it shows a couple by the name of Oaks, having property rights splitting across the lake....
So if you look at the same plot Marc, does it look to you as though there is no legal public access?

It looks to me like it is all on private land without any public access. In searching Oakes, it appears that family owns a lot of land in that region of the state.

My experience in the past, is that if you ask a land owner politely and assure them you won't trash the property, they many times will give you permission to fish on their land. With these maps, you can find out the land owner, where he/she lives and contact them.

The important thing is if you are fishing on public land, these maps have the aerial photographs which you can print up. You can then carry it with you and see where the public property ends. Better yet, feed the boundaries into you GPS.

BTW, these maps are pretty accurate (within a few feet). I researched my mother-in-laws property this last summer. I fed the Long. & Lat. into my GPS and walked the property. I was surprised how close it was.

I looked at Google Maps Street View. It is a nice little tea cup lake. There is a road going down to it, but don't see any kind of launch. I checked the WDFW Stock Reports back several years, there are no stocking's of any fish that I can see.
