Favorite Steelhead river and lure...

So hopefully, silvers and some early winter steelheads should be coming in with the rain. Ive had plenty of fun with the pinks this year and would very much like to hook into some nice silvers...and any other type of salmon!!! haha. I remember steelhead fishing as a kid with my father down in Vancouver, WA and would very much like to get back into the game. I think we landed some on corky and yarn, and spinners.

Out of all the places that i have scouted so far, I believe that the Snoqualmie is my favorite river so far. The whole idea of fishing there just seems very peaceful and relaxing. Not sure how will it will produce though, guess ill find out soon! As for the favorite lure, dont really have one, guess ill stick with the spinners and spoons (why fix something that not broken right?) But I do want to try out several new techniques: jigs, eggs (my first time trying to cure salmon eggs, hopefully they turned out alright), shrimp...

So whats everyones favorite river and lure for steelheads?

I do drift this set up and I use the least amount of weight possible to still feel bottom...

Yeah I bet a nightcrawler probably works. I've seen a bunch of people use the pink plastic worms when the water gets real dirty up at the Bogachiel. Favorite steelhead river on a boat is Cowlitz, from shore I'd say Bogachiel.

I agree. Cant beat the cow from a boat and fishin from the bank isnt bad either. Bogy and calawah from shore are great.

Coky/yarn with prawns or steelie roe or bobber and jig for the frog water.

On the east side of the mountains I have had great luck with 1/4 oz hammered nickle little cleos! Try it out!

went out to the Big Eddy yesterday. a couple fisherman out there tossing spoons and spinners and some drift fishing the river.

I tossed a float/jig into the big eddy...no bites...tossed a brass colored spoon...no bites. but saw what looked like a dirty looking king jumping like a crazy fish, that was pretty entertaining.

I was there as well, at the RC comp. Saw a number of fish jumping and a couple people fishing. I was lamenting I had not brought the boat for a little drifting too.

If I'm shore fishing I'm old school, corkie and eggs on drift gear. I know floats work but for some weird reason I'm yet to catch a steelie on a float, no matter what is under it. If I'm in a boat - no question - plugs. I love to work two plugs down a run and have the rush of that rod doubling over - "Fish On!"

stanford, when using plugs on a river, do you take off both trebles and put on a single siwash hook? I've always wondered this...

RVRFSHR spinners and spoons (Finish depends on conditions). Drifting roe, corkie n' yarn or okies and Float fishing jigs with or without a pink worm.

Even though I'm a terrible steelheader, my favorite rivers are the Methow and Wenatchee, or any Columbia Basin Steelhead rivers infact. I like how they don't run brown for half the winter and don't require 30 feet of T-14 to get in the strike zone. I guess my favorite technique is deep swinging flies through pools and current seams. Although dead drifting a stonefly/egg combo is pretty cool to.
