Screw 'em, if it fits what you want out of it, go for gusto. It's got to be high enough to look over the bow, if you have that covered go for it. After all it's wood. If you decide you don't like it, cut it off and start over.

Given the type of boat you are assembling, a sexy sleek cabin would reduce functionality. It's not like dropping the height by a foot and incorporating a more aerodynamic shape is going to improve your top end speed or cut fuel consumption. Trust me, when it is raining, cold or blowing she'll look real fine and you'll be glad you have the room! Being able to stand up under cover on your boat is priceless.

Absolutely right G-Man, kind of like driving a convertible in all the bad weather nature has to offer. Put a small propane heater inside on the "nasty" days and it's like sitting in your living room, well, not really.

Looking good E, and I visited your boat building page. Have you put a finish on the sides of her already? A couple of the pics looked like it was shiny, maybe just the angle the pics were taken. Keep us posted!

She's immersed in 3 coats of epoxy inside and out to make her waterproof as much as possible. As of right now, that means she's shiny as all get out, and that wood grain just radiates through.

Had a slight revamp of the initial plan, so the cabin will be lower and longer due to a change in the sole. It should look somewhere between these three:

The cabin will be as short as the top one to allow the biggest fish deck, but it will be much lower because Im abandoning the self bailing sole in favor of a lower setup that requires a pump. I don't like it, but the tradeoffs were just too many to get rid of the pumps.

I' kinda like the looks of the Miss Q., she's got enough room aft to fight a fish and the cabin looks big enough to turn around in. One of my fish'in buddies has a stand up only cabin and I can tell you, it's too small when its raining. You still have to wear full rain gear and just get a little less wet.

Of all the people I know that have owned or do own boats I've never heard one say,"Gee I wish this cabin was a little smaller, I like standing out in the rain.".

I guess I haven't been around here much lately, have I?

V berth is done, ready for paint:

Steering console is done:

Cabin sides are on and ready for fairing:

New sole is in and seat boxes are curing up as we speak:

Image

Fuel tanks are here, and getting close to ordering some hardware for things like steering, throttle, etc. Primer is here, so when the weather cools off too much to work on epoxy, I will start doing the paint prep work and primering.

Still planning on having her out for albacore this year, and might get lucky enough to have her done by halibut, though we shall see.

Well kids, it's been a good month, which meant I couldn't update the website until now. The freezer is stuffed, the boat is complete, and it is time to bring her in, repair the dings, add a few things for winter, and get her ready for the salt in the spring.

For those that haven't seen us on the water, here's the finished product:

And she did a great job of this:

37 albies were harvested this year for a pair of 3 man crews. Not too shabby for a sustainable harvest in an untested boat. My freezer is stuffed with more fish than I expected, and should keep us fed throughout the winter until halibut season opens again.

Thanks to all that helped out with setup and information. This boat wouldn't be here without the aid of countless people and their time and effort.

Beautiful boat indeed! Nice Job![thumbsup]

Funny, because I drove by your station today and I was wondering how you were doing and how the boat was progressing. I like the name.[wink]

WOW! That really finished out nicely Eric. [thumbup] I've wondered where you've been, but figured you, like me, have been busy all summer.

Would love to come and see the boat in person some time. Any decent fishing at Lake Spokane this time of year? [wink]

Sorry for the delay, thanks for all the kind words.

If any of the Spokane people want to see it, I'm around. We just returned from a 16 day trip to Germany/Czech Republic, and I am at the station today trying to get caught back up. Planning to do a little more work to her to add some handholds, modify some parts for better fishability, and add some things like trim tabs.

Just realized this forum hadn't gotten the updated website info that has ALL the boat builds on it.
