aquaholic,
I fish Liberty at least a couple of times a year. I fly fish primarily for the Rainbow and Brown Trout in Liberty. I have caught a few of the other species in the lake (Bass and Bluegills), but only by coincidence.

The lake is pretty shallow and heats up pretty early in the year. The Trout will look for deep, cool water this time of year. A good place to start is with the Topographic maps on this site and look for the deeper areas. I am a fly fisher and I use sinking line with a variety of fly patterns that imitate aquatic insects or bait fish. I try to fish these as close to the bottom as practical this time of year.

If the Trout are your target, go early in the morning (just before dawn) and fish from the edges into the deeper sections of the lake.

It has been 3 weeks since my last trip to Liberty. I did pretty well that day as i remember. A few yearling Rainbow and Brown Trout and the occasional Bluegill.

If its the Bass your after, I hear the week line at the south end is where your should be.

Tight lines

Just a warning, the boat launch at Liberty is always busy and designed poorly so be prepared to launch and retreve. Trout in the spring are pretty ez trolling a wedding ring and warm. I have never done super there via the fly rod but always catch a few. Sunfish are and perch are very ez to catch if kids are in the boat. I have caught a few bass on the southeast side of the lake, but I have witnessed more competant bass guys pull some nice lmb out of there
