Does anyone on here raise chickens or ducks.
Does anyone on here raise chickens or ducks.
I am just wondering if any of our WA Lakes family raise thier own chickens.Be it for meat, eggs or for show. The ol' lady just started this year talk about fun. If any of ya'll do what kind of chickens and if ya'll have any cool chicken stories. We raise our for eggs and pets. Lots of fun.Let me know.

We have six chickens and two ducks for egg production. They are our pets. We raised all of them. The ducks are Muscovy and the chickens are Bantams and New Jersey Giant.

Shawn- Get into the birds with the long exotic feathers. You will have a lifetime supply of hackle for your fly tying. :thumright
That's how Henry Hoffman got his start, a couple of birds at a time.

Oh ya, we have two rabbits too.
RE:Does anyone on here raise chickens or ducks.
we used to raise ducks, geese, and chickens. We at one point were pulling 2 doz eggs a day from the chickens, but the ducks and geese were more or less just decor for the pond. I hope to get back into it some day but right now my wife and i live in the city. (well... downtown)

I have chickens here and there.Havent in a couple years now. Nothing like fresh eggs for baking and just good eggs. What a difference in using fresh eggs compared to store bought. When I do have them I get hens only. You can get them at the feed store for .50 -2.00 each.My problem has been butchering them after nameing them.So I give them away after their prime laying age.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Wow! I am a city slicker! Here all these years I have been told that chickens lay eggs. Now I find out that the eggs have to be pulled out of the chickens?Dustin07 wrote:We at one point were pulling 2 doz eggs a day from the chickens, but the ducks and geese were more or less just decor for the pond.

Yup, got 18 hens and 1 roo. Started 7yrs ago with a lot of foot-draggin by me.
Once I found out how much fun it was, it's kinda hard not to bring some home form the feed store each timeI go there.
Used to have an Americauna roo that would ride on my shoulder like a Parrot, now that made for some interesting comments and pictures!
They all get named, henceforth the don't go into the frying pan! Creative names like Kahlua and Bailey.
Biggest trouble is keeping the damn raccoons from dining on them. Shoot, shovel and shut up! See ya, Mr 'Coon:salut:

Never let the TRUTH get in the way of a good fish story!!
RE:Does anyone on here raise chickens or ducks.
When I was a kid we raised chickens. I was also very gullible. My grandfather told me that since the baby chicks we got did not have a mommy chicken to teach them how to scratch for food I needed to teach them. Told me I needed to scratch twice with my left foot and three times with my right. Yes I actually went out and tried to teach the baby chicks how to scratch. I was very proud at how quickly they picked it up.
