We talked fishing for a bit, then he invited up for a cocktail with him and his wife on their deck. I thanked him and declined. He told me the offer stood whenever I came back. I need to get back there. But folks that think they own it all...frustrating to say the least.
I have been pretty fortunate. I've met some very cool homeowners. Lake Tapps has a few jerks but most
of the owners are pretty laid back and I've even made some good friends that are quick to point out where the
tigers and smallies are.

I was recently at Three Tree Point in Burien and saw a sign by the water that states that the water front home owners own the land down to extreme low tide. I didn't think this was legally possible, but certainly don't know. Do the rules for the Sound vary by county?
It might vary by county or maybe just for those home owners in that area. I know that it is the high tide point I'm pretty sure over at Hoodsport. But the home owner that lives right next to Hoodsport yapped enough and called the cops enough every year to make it so you can't walk around a certain area and made a new rule for that.

Dez, I'm not buying that man! You wouldn't even take a swim to go after that 5 lb largie you had hooked and wrapped in the weeds. been wanting to fish this lake. maybe we could do a perch/picture tournament but you would have to have a picture of what you caught of the house (1 point), of the home owner (2 points), scuba bubbles (3 points), home owner haveing a tantrum (4 points), hooked scuba diver on a stinger (winner).:-"

Awesome panfisher! Freaking yuppy scum.
You do your thang man. Some people are just to cool for this world and feel like they own it. Some feel they own space and this is just not true. Just because he has a dock in the water doesn't mean he owns that part of the lake.
Property owners on a lake own nothing more then their land, house and dock. You could hang out under their dock if you wanted to. Water is public property (owned by the state of washington) and your free to use it in any way you please. Obeying the laws of coarse.
But fish on brutha.
Love the picture.
Hey, next time post up right in between his docks there and fish away.

What a great thread!:cheers:

Half way reading through it, I went up stairs to nuke a bag of Pop Secret and discovered that I was out! Bummer!!

Hey Showpro, get the street address of the house where the Scuba Jerk lives. Call the county building department and inform them that Scuba Jerk is in violation of the building code. Any deck or balcony that is higher than 30" off the ground must have a railing around it at a minimum height of 36". From what it looks like in the photo, there seems to be quite a few pieces of patio furniture out on that second floor deck and it has no railing[-x

Probably a home made deck and he didn't get a permit for it. Image He'll have to pay for a permit, and a fine, and a late penilty. Image It also looks cheap and unsafe Image he'll have to tear it down. Image Image

if you look to the right there seems to be a small deck area with a slider and no rail system either. the main deck is a no-no with out a rail system as it is being used as a deck and not a roof.

Lots of good ideas here. Here are a few other options that I believe would be very effective and might stop their behavior:

*I would definitely recommend calling 911 the next time these folks confront you and don't stop the minute you tell them to walk away. Have their address so the Deputy will know where to go. Advise the 911 call taker you will be in your boat waiting for contact at the shoreline of the address.

*I would absolutely recommend contacting Jesse Jones from King 5 News at GetJesse@king5.com or call him at 1-877-515-3773. I would be very surprised if he wasn't interested in this story. I have seen him confront lots of folks on the news and I think these two home owners would hate to be confronted on TV. Before you do this you might want to have your ducks lined up in a row. Specifically, get these home owners addresses and go to the King County Assessors web page http://www5.kingcounty.gov/parcelviewer ... viewer.asp and type in their addresses in their address search. Once the info comes up, look to the left of the map to view the taxpayer/homeowner information. Then, call or write Jesse Jones. I am sure he would love to do a story on this. Sweet Revenge, in a professional manner.

*You could also contact King 5, Komo 4, and Kiro 7, and see if any of them are interested in this story. I believe that they would be.

Here are a couple laws that may apply;

RCW 9A.84.030 Disorderly conduct.
(1) A person is guilty of disorderly conduct if the person:
(a) Uses abusive language and thereby intentionally creates a risk of assault; (this means using "fighting words")
(b) Intentionally disrupts any lawful assembly or meeting of persons without lawful authority;
(c) Intentionally obstructs vehicular or pedestrian traffic without lawful authority; or
(d)(i) Intentionally engages in fighting or in tumultuous conduct or makes unreasonable noise, within five hundred feet of:
(A) The location where a funeral or burial is being performed;
(B) A funeral home during the viewing of a deceased person;
(C) A funeral procession, if the person described in this subsection (1)(d) knows that the funeral procession is taking place; or
(D) A building in which a funeral or memorial service is being conducted; and
(ii) Knows that the activity adversely affects the funeral, burial, viewing, funeral procession, or memorial service.
(2) Disorderly conduct is a misdemeanor.

RCW 9A.46.020 Definition -- Penalties.
(1) A person is guilty of harassment if:
(a) Without lawful authority, the person knowingly threatens:
(i) To cause bodily injury immediately or in the future to the person threatened or to any other person; or
(ii) To cause physical damage to the property of a person other than the actor; or
(iii) To subject the person threatened or any other person to physical confinement or restraint; or
(iv) Maliciously to do any other act which is intended to substantially harm the person threatened or another with respect to his or her physical or mental health or safety; and
(b) The person by words or conduct places the person threatened in reasonable fear that the threat will be carried out. "Words or conduct" includes, in addition to any other form of communication or conduct, the sending of an electronic communication.
(2)(a) Except as provided in (b) of this subsection, a person who harasses another is guilty of a gross misdemeanor.
(b) A person who harasses another is guilty of a class C felony if either of the following applies: (i) The person has previously been convicted in this or any other state of any crime of harassment, as defined in RCW 9A.46.060, of the same victim or members of the victim's family or household or any person specifically named in a no-contact or no-harassment order; or (ii) the person harasses another person under subsection (1)(a)(i) of this section by threatening to kill the person threatened or any other person.
(3) The penalties provided in this section for harassment do not preclude the victim from seeking any other remedy otherwise available under law.

And what is with the pipe running up the side of the house? Is that a stove pipe? Without a cap? Can't be a electrical service mast, it is new construction. The service on all new construction is underground.

I think an inspector would have a hay day at that place:cheers:

Thanks, Dave. Yes, I have the addresses and if harassed again will call.

As for Get Jesse...creative idea. Frankly, though, I'm just not feeling that vindictive, yet. If it continues, though, I'll keep that one in mind.

Anyone can find the properties, though. They're near 16th and E. Lake Sammamish Pkwy. Not hard to find on, say, Zillow.

if someone was under my boat bangin the botom, id just start the frigging engine..and i have no problem telling someone where to go. no if someone threw things at my boat well im really not sure how id handle that one. in a fit of rage id wanna shotputt my down riggerball through their window but the best way is to call the cops and make them pay for that chip in the paint that the stone/pellet did.

Fished this spot on Friday hoping to pick up some perch for dinner and have a little entertainment at an obnoxious homeowner's expense. The fishing was good but the entertainment was lacking. Just after I got there and was picking out my spot to tie up and anchor a guy from the gray house came out and asked me what I was looking for. I told him, "fish, what else?". He said that there weren't any fish here and I should try somewhere else which prompted my reply of, "let me be the judge of that". He watched me tie up and anchor, took my picture and went back into the house. Fished there for about 2 hours, shirt off music going and had no further encounters. Kind of disappointing, but maybe they got the point as I have a couple of washingtonlakes.com decals prominently displayed on my boat. Anyone else pay this area a visit in the past week?

Very nice G-Man.

I am guessing if they become jerks again and one our members tells them the police are being called, and actually call the police, this behavior will stop. They just need to be told from an officer that their behavior is unwarranted and could land them in jail and I am sure it will stop. If not, someone is gonna have to go to jail. They may also be noticing the increase in fishermen at this location and might be putting 2 and 2 together which may discourage them from confronting you guys, but I kinda doubt that is it.

*** Another option would be to mail an anonymous letter outlining the crime they are committing and politely promise them in the letter that ANY further harassment or contact by them will generate a police response and a media event. I will bet that this type of letter would stop them as well, and may avoid further incidents all together. I think this would be my course of action. I would be very polite, brief, and to the point. I might also include that many members of the fishing community are aware of their behavior and are prepared to take action if this continues.

Dave, I have been thinking that exact thing from day one. Including mailing copies of the relevant statutes with relevant sections highlighted.

The problem with the media event is that people lie. My concern is that they'll start making up stuff about our behavior and turn this into a much bigger problem than it deserves to be. I think the best approach is just to deflect any initial contact and call the PD if it escalates into harassment.

Honestly, if I'd known where to tell the cops to come to, I would have called them last Sunday after the diving thing. Now I know the address.
