RE:roe
Hey Curado, do you cut up all your eggs into quarter sized pieces? Or just some of them? I have 4 butter containers full of eggs that I cut up into golf ball size peices. I do it this way because, the way I figure it, I can always cut them smaller for the silvers of steelhead, but plan mostly to throw them at kings. Do the eggs cure better when cut up in smaller pieces?
RE:roe
i cut min small because i have hooked kings on small egg clusters and it can be used for steelhead to. but cutting them up as you go is fine

RE:roe
curado, so you cut your skeins into those pieces, dry them on that screen, then put them into borax?

RE:roe
I am so confused on this..........do they stay stuck together once they have been cured? Just seems like they would fall off the hook.
RE:roe
hanapaa, borax and i cut the skein in half and then cut into pieces
scott the skein is in tact so that way you use an egg loop for the roe

RE:roe
Finally got the roe on a cure. Per the instructions on one of the Steelhead links natenez posted. Went with 1 part sea salt, 2 parts sugar, and 3 parts Borax. I also added a couple of drops of red food coloring to the mix, but I don't think it'll do much. I cut the roe skeins into, more or less, quarter size pieces and then mixed them up with this dry cure (~3 Tbs. to 4 skeins ratio), so it looks like slush. That was 2 fish worth of eggs. I'll stir this up once a day for the next 3-4 days and then see what I have. I then plan to either drain/dry them prior to placing in the freezer, or just place them in as is, depending.
