HOW TO MEET ONE ANOTHER...JUST MY THOUGHTS
HOW TO MEET ONE ANOTHER...JUST MY THOUGHTS
‘Returnofthefish’ started an interesting thread titled ‘Fishing w/ Strangers’. As I read through the great responses I find it hard to ignore a common interest between many of us members, and something that has been on my mind since I joined WL.com. The basic question of how to find people to fish with. Not just anyone to fish with…but someone that’s compatible. I don’t want to sound ‘weird’ and no, this will not be a topic on the next Dr Phil show… but I think most members know what I mean…if you’re a crack pot…then you should have a way meet up w/ other crackers. On the other end of the spectrum…if you’re kind of squared away…I might like to hook-up (no pun intended) with those in my area.
This was actually THE primary reason I joined this site…was to hopefully meet a friend or two that share similar fishing areas…and possibly evolve into the notorious ‘fishing buds for life’ gig. Ok, that might be sounding kind of corny by now…but you get my point and it’s a sincere one at that. Both of my best friends passed away in 2003. They were not only very close friends…but the only fishing buds I had as well. Therefore now when I fish, it’s usually by myself (properly armed of course, but none the less by myself) in my boat. Believe me…I’m not climbing in my pity-pot but I’ve noticed there’s a fine line of going by myself simply because ‘it’s easier’ or to take a chance, extend my hand and ask if someone would like to hook-up… I don’t know as I fight this dilemma quite often. As a member for the past few months, I have a few of you like minded crazies on my radar and really enjoy your posts. The problem is that when I’m ready to go fishing…I have forgotten who wrote what…in what thread and can’t find them again for the life of me. Does anyone else go through this…or am I the only one that needs professional help? (Ok…I take that back…and not to name names but I’ve read enough of Swedes posts to know!! LM?O)
Perhaps Mike and Aaron could create something like an ‘address book’ so that each of us could place selected members profiles in our own file? YEAH…and we could call it ‘Fish-Finders’…yeah that’s the ticket!! I don’t know…what do you guys think? Does anyone else feel this way? Is there already something like this available as a premium member? All input is welcome and thanks in advanced for your thoughts. :geek:

RE:HOW TO MEET ONE ANOTHER...JUST MY THOUGHTS
Everyone that I have met from this site is a cool cat in my book. I have a couple of what I would call "good friends" that I hooked up with from this site and talk to regularly.
One thing I would recommend mav is definitely attending any get togethers like the Extravaganza, Fish-In's or Seminars that take place. I have found the the legit, cool people who are really down with fishing like I am, go to these and don't just "chat it up" online. Some talk the talk and some.... well you know. Be sure to hit up this years Extravaganza in July and I promise you'll find some dudes to fish with.
Other than that, I would just make note of who says what in threads or just PM the person and say what's up. If I find that someone is from my area or is fishing a lake I go to, I usually send them a PM and say hey.
Your really only going to get so far chatting in threads. Send them a PM and meet up at a lake somewhere. Only way to find out if someone is square or a crack pot is to meet them face to face. And I'll be honest with ya mav, a lot of people around here are misread. I can honestly say that some people that I have met are completely different than what I had made them out to be just from posts on here.
I do argree with the "address book" idea. Most sites have "friends" that you can add to your page. Might be a future addition.

RE:HOW TO MEET ONE ANOTHER...JUST MY THOUGHTS
We do have a forum update coming. I'm not sure what all Aaron has in it, but I do know the "Fishing Buddies" idea is on his radar screen. Hopefully he'll see this thread and share his thoughts.
For sure join us at the Derby/BBQ, as fishnsilife mentioned, it's a great way to meet and get to know some of the great people that frequent this site.
The PM system does allow you to save your PMs, which is a way to track people you hit it off with from the forums.

It's easy, "PM", then our addresses aren't out for the public.
Build a man a fire and he's warm for the night. Light a man on fire and he's warm the rest of his life!

Thanks Mike...that sounds good. I do plan on being there at the July get together. I still have a standing invitation to Fishingmachine and Curado in my boat. If they bail for whatever reason...of course I would open the seats to others. I think I'll use the PM suggestions as well...thanks guys!Mike Carey wrote:We do have a forum update coming. Well, I don't know about the condition of your boat, but if folks gotta bail when you're out on the water you might want to get that looked at.mav186 wrote: I still have a standing invitation to Fishingmachine and Curado in my boat. Just PM the person is a good idea..
This is going to turn into like "WA Lakes.com man fishing dates" ha-ha, lol
Yea, there is only a handful of other people I fish with. Only 1 from this site, well 3 total if you included my Bro and Dad.
