Post by fishing collector » Thu May 14, 2009 9:39 pm

:fish:For Sale.. Built in 1988, a Calkin's Bartender double ender, 26' L.O.A., 8' beam, custom built for fishing and cruising. Built from 3/4in Fir marine ply over mahogany frame and bronze fittings. Forward cuddy with galley, head, all electronics;GPS. Radar, Fish finder, Radios,Power lift anchor, Electric Down-riggers etc. New Ford 351 HO V8, w/ Hamilton jet drive. VERY LOW HOURS since a Factory New Engine was installed (not rebuilt). The boat has twin 66 gal fuel tanks, 30 gal. fresh water and a full galley with a diesel stove. It has a flush toilet, sink and shower. Canvas included and we have the full size hull plans and all receipts. Please go here to find out about Bartenders. These boats are even used by the Coast Guard. They are one of the most stable boats in rough water that have been designed. http://bartenderboats.com/index.html

The boat has been continuely up dated throughout it's life. All coatings are like new. It is ready to go fishing or cruising. If you need a reliable boat for ocean fishing then this boat will fill your needs.

This Bartender shows incredible attention to detail, with total low boat hours. It is in excellent condition. It will go 30+ knots and troll all day. It was featured in Wooden Boat Magazine in Nov/Dec 2001 item # 200-163,Article about George Calkins' Bartenders and was pictured there. An Oct 2007 marine survey priced this boat at $68,000.... Priced now at $26,500 OBO incl. trailer. This boat has always been stored inside a building. The trailor needs some work. A new one would be best. The price has been lowered so we can sell the boat soon. This boat has got to go due to the home and storage buildings are now for sale. Please email me and I will show you the boat in Sequim.

Just want to add a few things about this boat.

This is one of the finer examples of George Calkins boats that were made for our local waters. Something needed to be built to handle the special conditions of Oregon and Washington's coastal fisheries. Being that running bars which often were closed due to swell and wind waves that were steepened and caused to break dangerously, a boat needed to have certain traits developed. Having a pointed bow only helps running out, so she has a pointed stern as well. Instead of having a large mass of weight in the transom like an outboard or IO, she carries her motor centrally, the lowest, most advantageous place. Tankage and cabins are all catered to make it the most seaworthy boat possible.

Grain o Sand is a borderline landmark boat. She is powered by the engine George specified (lightweight gas), and was a slight departure using the Hamilton pump. As most know, Hamilton is the gold standard in pumps, and allows a boat like this to troll at ANY speed, as they are infinitely variable.

I am in no way connected to the boat, but they have a long and storied history on the West coast. There are very few boats Id take out in bad weather better than the one here for sale. If I had the cash, Id jump as I know about how this boat was built and the care taken of her.

If anyone is interested in more Bartender boat history I can post some things.

Best of luck selling her.

E

Ok Steve how many of my SHRIMP:-$ :chef: did you give him? LOL

Its a cared for tub and much thought into the design and products used and near perfect:-$

Make sure if your pressing the big Blue?saltwaters you pick the (Hamilton 213):-$ not the 212 = its salt waters bullet proof :-$ the other a great pump as well but will be punished if not fresh water flushed and cared for and not just the external zinks internals into the pump as well :-$

Gisteppo, I am sorry that I haven't thanked you before for the kind words. I have been gone and haven't had much time for reading the forums. Thanks for adding the the history of these boats.... I know that when it was built it was the finest one to be seen on the west coast. The article in Wooden Boat's was a real treat for my dad. It has been meticulously taken care of and has always been garaged. We are going to get rid of this boat as soon as possible and were hoping to offer it to someone here on WL's . If you were to build one today it would cost you well over $80k. I hope to sell it to someone here in Washington. Thanks again, Steve

Ladies and Gents, this is bar none the most seaworthy boat you can buy for that price, period. If I wasn't elbows deep in the Clipper I'd be pushing to find a way to pick Grain o' Sand up.
