Interesting story, or how much does a 32" bass weigh

Post by zen leecher aka Bill W » Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:20 pm

My wife told me a story when she got home tonight. A co-worker of hers was out fishing last weekend and caught what he believed is a bass, and it measured 32 inches.

I should get a picture tomorrow to see if this is true. The lake is one of the smaller westside suburban lakes.

Since this would be 8-10 inches larger than the current record I'm kind of thinking I'm going to see a picture of a carp.

Definitely cannot wait to see the pic. If true, it would be one heck of a WA bass.

Length x Length x Length divided by 1600,..32x32x32=32768 divided by 1600= 20.48 LBS,..sounds like Florida Strain 2 me or like Bill said,..just a Big Carp!

This is why I said if it is a bass it's about 8-10 inches longer than the current record.

I've been wondering what westside fish grows to 32 inches and isn't a trout or bass. All I can come up with is a carp or squawfish.

My guess would be that it's a Carp,..he says he "believes" it's a Bass,..although Muskies grow to 50"+ it's very hard 2 mistake them for Bass,..maybe a Squaw,..but I'd say a Carp,..but who knows I could be wrong,..if it is a Bass @ 32" and 20+ Lbs the April 1977 record would be shattered!

It also has to be a lake that tiger muskies are stocked in.

Last year while on Lake Wa I landed a 4+ Bronzie,..funny cause the Smallie must have been pretty deep and came up 2 investigate when it gulped my Swimmy,..I say deep cause it seemed 2 "lack-light" because of it's coloring,..2 me it did resemble a Carp,..so it might make sense for the "Non-Basser" 2 mistaken a Carp for a Bass!

Those bastard carp! lol. I remember accidently catching my first carp at banks. I thought I had a monster bass on and it took me five minutes to bring it in. At shore, I took one look at that stinky thing, detached my lure, and shoved it back in the water with my foot. What a let down!
Banks lake for LIFE!

The guy forgot to bring the pictures in today. Hopefully I'll get to see them tomorrow as I'm real curious.

As to the 32" rockbass remark. I once caught a 13 incher one in another state. Never got one close to that size again.

I remember that time i caught my first 30" LMB .. i was fishing with granda paw at age 9 and after i finally got that pig in the flat bottom , he removed the hook and said thats what i call a "catfish son" . i looked back at him and said i thought we were tring to catch a bass . Paw paw looked down at the fish and looked back up at me and said if you want it be a bass then call it what you want ! ..

So with that being said im not saying dude is lying , but most fish stories all start with pride and ego first and not much mention of tru weight and knowledge of species ..

I know a guy to this day that no matter what he hooks , it will always be called a 4-7 lb bass ..lol

some live it , some dream it !! :-"

Well...Bigcatfish Dez (thought you needed a more accurate name), does a person really need one of them 175hp sparkly red metalflake boats just to catch catfish? I thought they just slime up the carpet.

The guy doesn't fish much but he does know how to measure. I figure he doesn't know what a bass looks like. I want to see the pic so I can figure out what he caught and then encourage him on future fishing ventures. If it really is a bass I was trying to get some intel in case he was fishing a neighborhood private lake and could get me in.
