I have never fished the lake but it say there are rainbow, cutthroat, brook and bull trout, along with kokanee and Chinook salmon and large mouth bass. That sounds like quite the variety to me. The lake received no big trout this year but it did get 26,000 cutthroat fry and 150,000 kokanee fry. The # for the state park is (360) 887-5491, and the resort # is (360) 887- 9630, and the website is (you guessed it) www.lakecushman.com. So if I were you Id give them a call, they should be able to give you the tips you need

there are a few archived reports, but it doesn't get a lot of reporting - too remote I think. I have heard stories of impressive bass. The lake is incredibly clear from what I've heard, as in 30 ft visabilty, so troll well back from the boat. Send a report if you go!

Will do mike, I'm going this weekend. We are camping at Lake Cushman Resort and plan on hunting down some Kokanee.

the visibility is far beyond 30 feet.

Using diving gear in what looked like 20 foot water, soon came to the realization that we were not going to reach the crystal clear bottom "inches" in front of us....

very, very clear.... unbelievably clear. Probably 70 foot plus in summer.

But on the other note, fish are drawn to very selective structure.... aka .... miles of no fish in sight, and pockets of good fish.

It helps to do a little scuba-scouting a few days in advance.

I've fished here and had good luck fishing the kok's using leaded line to get down and normal flasher or pop gear setup. Lures in red and a worm or corn for bait. Fish (troll) the steep bank opposite from the resort. Fish are small but very good to eat. Take your time bringing them in, soft mouths. Troll a dick nite or point spoon near resort side in the evening for the cutts.

Hey Trout Magnet, would you mind mentioning WL.com to the resort? Never know when a resort will decide to become a sponsor. Having camping guests mention the site is the best way.

Well, I just got back from Lake Cushman and all I can say is I wasnt impressed. There were lots of little Kokes but thats just about it. There were some nice pictures in the Store at the Lake Cushman resort but we didnt bring the down riggers. The lake it self is nice but fishing was bad. Now as the resort i will probaly never go back. This is in no way a fishing resort a matter of fact they seem to discouraage it seems at times. But then again i find myself comparing every resort to Mardon @ The Potholes Resavoir (My favorite Camping Resort). With all this being said a bad day fishing still beats a good day working(we catch alot of little Kokes)

By the way if you read this Sam Kalelafish I used the Flat fish rig you posted on the Forum and killed the kokes. The were small but loved the Flat fish.

trout magnet, you couldn't have said it better. Mar Don resort is one of the best fishing resorts Iv been to in WA. The resort has more selection of fishing gear than most sports stores, and its about 200 yards to my favorite fishing dock and lake. But in all fairness trout magnet, there arnt too many lakes/resorts you can compare to Mar Don/ potholes reservoir LOL

Impressive bass indeed. But -- they are not easy -- the water is gin clear and big bass and clear water can be quite a challange. You have have to know where to go, when to go and what to use. It has been one of my secret lakes for several years.
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.
